what is it worth

Hi all, I have a good running 1965 Olds 425 with the turbo 400 I am thinking about selling. I've owned it for over 3 years and it doesn't seem to use any oil, don't smoke just a real good running engine and trans. What would be a fair price to put on it. Thanks for any help. Dennis

Dennis, I bought a spare 455 and TH 400 years ago for $750. Of course, I just bought them as cores since I couldn't see them run. I think your best bet is to invest in an engine run stand so you can remove the engine and post it for sale. Listing it as "come watch it run" will make the engine more valuable than if it's still in your car, especially if you have an engine hoist the buyer can use to load it into their truck.

I think you could get 1k-$1500 for the pair. I'd trust an engine more if I could test drive it if I was buying.

It's a 56 year old motor of unknown heritage and mileage. It's a 2bbl that could be either 9.0:1 or 10.25:1 compression. The TH400 is a long tail from a full size car that won't easily work in an A-body. If someone offers you $1K, run all the way to the bank. $500-$750 is more likely.

It probably also has the 45 degree lifter angle instead of the later 39 degree engines.

I have a 66 425 for sale here, 4bbl manifold also out of a 98. No issues with it from what I can tell, $750 with carb...No takers yet.

Thanks for your time and help. What I really want is a stick shift car.

Is the engine still in the car and running, or did you put it on a run stand? Just wondering because I've considered selling my rebuilt 455.
