What is this and where does this go?

This hose isn't connected to anything, and it sucks in air. I don't know where it goes. Maybe the purge valve solenoid? But it didn't quite reach. This is a 1996 Cutlass Ciera 3.1L v6. Thank you.

It goes in the junkyard with the rest of that car. I'm just kidding of course. I had one of those Cierras except it had a diesel in it. What a pos. It had a harmonic distortion at 42 mph that would shake the car to its bones. I stayed away from that mph, bigly.

If the hose is coming off the exhaust manifold, perhaps it has something to do with an air pump and smog. Good luck.

I don't quite disagree with your initial sentiment, but this is my daily and main driver. I'm economically disadvantage out here. Desperate times, desperate measures. Air pump and smog? Yea, the purge solenoid lost some hoses and I don't know where they might connect to although I have some idea. I don't believe this one hose in particular connects to it, but I might wrong. I'll take some more photos to give you a complete picture.

Apparently it goes to ACSRY. Whatever that is. From Googling it might be for the heater. Also, the PCV valve hose is connected to its designated area, but the second hose which connects to the evap switch, and which I think is called the EVAP CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID VALVE, is missing

Well, you're on the right track with google. I hate the company but love their search engine. If you think you have it bad think about when I owned a DIESEL Cierra in the early 90s. Holy Moly was that car a pos.

So instead of taking it somewhere to have it fixed, I would do what you're doing. That is to research it and fix it yourself. Great luck to you!

I would guess ACSRY is an abbreviation for Accessory. Maybe that hose doesn't connect to anything on your car because the car doesn't have the accessory? Maybe that hose should just be plugged? Have you tried that? How does the engine run if you do? I would think that any vacuum hose that's disconnected on one end and just open to the atmosphere would constitute a vacuum leak and would worsen engine performance.

I wouldn't think the heater would be considered an accessory if it was standard equipment.

El Paso pick a parts

Those cars - '92 to '96 A bodies, have been entering the pick a parts for quite a while. they are now THIRTY years old. The bodies and metal parts, are excellent btw. I have a '91 Century I use for a daily in town beater. It needs front lower ball joints so I don't take it out on the freeway. It has the better 90 degree Buick engine, close to 200k on it now.

It does indeed connect to a red line which was hidden underneath all those electrical connections.

I did plug it with my finger, and there was less noise. Most of it from the lack of suction noise, but I believe the engine also ran an iota smoother.

Lower ball joints give way regardless of speed, do they not? Well at least that was the assumption I was under when I decided to replace mine. Didn't wanna die or kill anyone out there. Stay safe homie. My engine's at 221k. Admittedly, might not last that much longer ha...ha

Yeah but if you're not going really fast the crash becomes less crashy.
