Valve covers on blue engine have "Oldsmobile Rocket" stamped in. My guess 54-58 Olds. The open one may be scrap depending on how bad the bores are rusted.

What are the numbers on the heads of the blue one. for sure a mid fifties Old's the heads would tell if it is a 303 324 or371, looks to be a 371 by the width of the intake but hard to tell by the picture.... Tedd

Jump on it before he changes his mind. The 2 X 4 intake manifold is the only thing of rarity. The intake manifold brand and number could help narrow down what it is. The valve covers need to be rechromed. Where are you located?

Head numbers are just above the exhaust manifold, should be something like #2 =1952 #3= 1953 #7=1954 #8=1955 #10=1956 # 16= 1957or1958. I don't think 1949 or 1950 had any numbers. I don't know the block casting numbers but someone here would if they see this post....... If that engine was fresh it would be worth the money but right now it is questionable with out a tear down and inspection... Tedd

The number on the cylinder head checks out to 57 or 58 371 cu in .
$1200 is a good offer , especially since the internal condition of the engine is unknown .
I would take it .

Not sure about early V-8 Olds, but that top half of bell housing cast onto the back of the block on Cadillac engines (using the same hydramatic transmission as Olds) was used from '49-'54. If that is the case with Olds also, then maybe a later set of heads are installed on this Olds engine.
