Although it looks a lot like leather, so does 'naugahyde' which was used extensively. Some folks get it confused with leather in their descriptions putting cars for sale.

they look like 68 or a bit earlier seat frames as they have the back release in the side and no headrests - the pattern does have the look of Buick.

The guy has quite a story. Says he's the original owner of this errrrr......442 . All original except the inner fenders...... because.....wait for it.......the "1" in the VIN signifies a Canadian built 442

LOL
Last time he had it listed I contacted him and was VERY polite. I explained the VIN to him and that this was a good replica/tribute car but NOT a 4-4-2. He told me I was full of s%^t and it is not for sale to me.
Well, I reported the bozo this time.

I just sent the guy some information on how to properly decode his VIN. Lets see if he actually fixes the listing.

I very nicely sent him a message explaining the same and he wasn't very nice in his response. He's a real piece of work. A totally scammer. I'll bet he's just like the guy that got burned on that 64 442 "pilot car" that insists it's real. He's totally in denial

We should all take up a collection, purchase the Canadian docs for the car, and post the VIN everywhere on the internet with a copy of the docs

Well, I say it's BEST if we all report the listing as counterfeit. Misrepresented vehicle, as I did. If enough folks report it, they will HAVE to look at it.
And he has 18 bids on it???
LOL
Granted, it's a good looking car. But WHAT is it???
A Canadian mongrel...

well he does call it a "Cutlass 442" :~)

Nice looking car. I really like the color scheme. Interesting how bitter he is about having to relist it but isn't willing to listen to anyone about it NOT being a 442.

I sent him pictures from the Yearone catalog showing the breakdown of the VIN and what each segment of it means. He can't deny the breakdown. If he comes back at me, well then he is just proving either his complete ignorance or the fact that he is just out to rip somebody off.

My guess is the guy that won the original auction backed out after he found out the car was misrepresented as to what it really was.

LOL
And as pointed out in a previous thread, Cutlass hood badge, W-30 inner fenders (he admitted to installing), VIN of 342 which is a Cutlass Supreme V8, PRNDL with a floor shifter, CS on door panels, seats of a '68 Chevelle, Cutlass rear bumper and stripe added like mine. Added...LOL
DOES look sweet though.
Oh, Keystone wheels? Try SSI wheels.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a sharp car and probably worth $10,000, but it's NOT in any way, shape or form a 442 and he needs to state that in the auction.

At least the W36 stripe and 442 numerals are in the right place (for a change). Where is the dash striping?

decal

Decal says 4.00 bore, 3.975 stroke. Wasn't 1968 long stroke 400G engines?

He states in the add that it's a 67 400.

I also sent him a message describing the VIN break down and asked if he was intentionally trying to deceive bidders & he responded with "thanks for ur concern".

He states it's a 67 date code for a 442. I'm not any kind of expert on Oshawa cowl tags but I'm guessing 1-4-8 is the body build date. A 67 date code 400G motor would have been correct for this car. He's being intentionally misleading.

And 19 bidders MAY be misinformed. That's the part that really bothers me!!!
And why I ask that everyone report it to eBay. When you send a question, the seller has the option to post it in the ad for others to see. Of course he will NOT post any of our questions.
Deceitful seller and unscrupulous IMO.

I wasted my time, sending him the vin breakdown info, the last time he had it on ebay also. He did email me back saying thanks for the info but he knew what he was talking about & unless I was interested in buying the car, don't bother him!! Jerk!!! It's a shame there's so much misinformation out there on our cars. I was at a local show earlier this summer & a guy comes up to me,complements me on my '68 & tells me had had a '69 442 "back in the day" with a factory 350 in it? I told him that a true 442 of that year would have only come with a 400. He tells me I'm wrong?,gets on the phone to his son who checked some site on the net & smugly tells me that '69 442s came with 350s,400s or 455s???? It was on the net so it must be true!!!! It wasn't worth arguing with the "expert"!!

Yes Mike, 68 Chevelle. Note the door pulls and backing plates are the same too Here is a shot of my buds 68 Shovel gut he purchased from BJ... The 68 Chevelle is what has save me many times with my 68s. Many parts for this one year wonder are from the same bin.
Someone should send an email to this guy stating why not just list is as a nice CS, 442 tribute, if tribute...clone or what ever even applies with all the left over miss matched parts. Tell him hes in Federal violation for misrepresenting a VIN. Scare him and see if he changes his tune. Nice try...age of electronics buddy deal with it. Hes being a douche nozzle because hes being called out and he doesn't like it! TFB!

About the exact words I told him. Great tribute car. Told him he was misrepresenting and I had reported his ad since he was such a hose pipe when I was trying to be nice. He sent back "Thank you eBay police, now don't email aga.....couldn't even spell again, he was so peed off.

Well, just a few hours left to go. Bid is at $11,000 and the reserve has been met. THIS will be interesting to watch. Will there be yet another deadbeat bidder? I would love to see and hear how this one turns out. I guess my report to eBay fell on deaf ears. Or those managing the eBay Motors side of it don't know vehicles either.
Oh well....
