What should I be prepared to pay for a 72 supreme

I am in the market for a 71-72 supreme. I have seen a few on Craigslist and eBay sell for decent amounts and others went for less. I have been looking at a few nice ones that were mostly original not many mods but had mileage around 120k.
I am mainly looking for a driver that I could work on and drive but nothing major. I found an incredible 72 supreme with 47k and nothing more than a spec of rust near the trim on the rear. The car might even have factory muffler still. My question is what would be a good price for a car in that such condition opposed to the ones on craiglist and eBay with a lot more miles and a lot more wear? I was hoping to get something for about 5 to 6k but is this a good buy?
One problem I see is that I planned getting a black interior car and didn't care about the outside because I wanted to paint it, but with the low mileage car I don't really like the color( gold w/black top) and would hate to re paint since it is so nice.

I guess my end question is to the folks that know more about prices than me. What would the 72 supreme with 47k, 2 owner car, fantastic in and out be a good buying price at? Not a steal but a good fair price.
Secondly, am I crazy to think that if I wait long enough I will find a decent supreme with little wear for 5 to 6k with 100k ball park miles?
Hoping to upload some pictures so you guys can see the condition of this 72. It is super nice and I hope to dig into the car more tomorrow with a buddy of the owner.

First question is, what kind of options? pics would help (you mentioned that you have some) is it close to be a numbers matching car?
dealer retail $14-17k?
private party $12-15k?

The rest is up to you, how bad do you want it and second how long it's been on the market.

Doesnt' matter how good of a deal it is if you don't like the color and plan not to paint it. If you're going to walk outside and cringe every day then don't buy it.

Now, if it's a big block(I forget the desireable codes in the VIN) that might be a different story.

I've bought more than a couple of these over the past 21 years. ; )

For a solid and clean 350 Supreme that needs paint (minimal rust, mechanically sound, nice interior, etc.), $4K-$5K is definitely in the ballpark nowadays. The really nice 350 Supremes are generally in the $8K-$12K range depending on options, paperwork, etc. The gold car you're describing would likely fit more into this range.

Here are two on the lower end for sale near me now for comparison purposes. I think the bamboo one is a way better deal unless the pictures lie:

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ctd/3329149034.html

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/3386615494.html

Both have been listed for over a month.

Terry

I was hoping to get more pictures tomorrow but don't think I will be able to meet the owner. I do have some pictures that don't really do any justice but I will post them. I did notice the tags on car are from 98. Car starts right up after adding gas from a tank. The front end worries me as it looks like a 71. I did find all the paper work in glove box and even found a deal tag but no window sticker or build sheet. Didn't know where to look other than in glove box. Car has two dings about the size of a dime, one on hood and other near DS quarter. Nicest car I have seen yet but he wants 8k firm. FYI the car isn't listed for sale and hasn't been for over 12 years. I only contacted him thru a neighbor and he was nice enough to show it to us.

Sorry for the horrible pictures they were taken from a cell phone. I question the front end not having black like the 72 should have??? I noticed that the car was built in 71 but is a 72. Would that make the front end original or likely changed. The body is as clean as I have seen from a car that has been in Ohio for a long time. So what does everyone think??

Lousy pictures, but nice-looking car.

I think his price is a bit high, but I think everyone's prices are a bit high.

If this car has been sitting for 15 years, there could be a lot of things deteriorated and in need of repair before it is a reliable, safe driver. I'd try to knock a couple of grand off the price on that basis.

I'm not usually a gold fan, but that car looks like it will look really nice cleaned up - I wouldn't repaint it a different color.
If you decide you can't buy it because of the color, there may be someone on this board who has been searching for one exactly like it, who would appreciate it (no, not me ).

Problem is, the car has not run for a long time. Chances are it will not be running when you buy it. Why was it parked, who was the driver prior to it being parked. How's the interior?

This one is for sale though a member here.

Cool garage find. To me the price seems quite high for a car that has been sitting for years (12?). Richards car is a bargain indeed compared to this supreme

I really like the 72 supreme, but not at 8k. I did notice some of the seals around the trunk and doors were rock solid and probably would need changed. I am sure several things on the engine would need changed too. Between that, brakes, exhaust, and tires, I would have to be a buyer of 5 or 6k just to be able to drive it in the near future. Sadly I don't think the owner is going to sell for less. Back to my search.

Keep in touch with him, leave occasional notes in his mailbox, etc.

When he dies, his family is likely to remember you and call, just to "get rid of that thing" - We've gotten a car that way.

Actually I have seen that on CL for well over a month if not longer. If you look at the wind shield it say $3000 OBO.

Looks like that PA car might have took a shot in the nose at some point.

The paint on both fenders where they meet the doors is off.

Could be a big can of worms lurking under that non-matching paint up front.
(core support - frame etc etc)

Looks like there may be the start of rust in a few places as well.

The asking price seems fair enough if this stuff were minor & there are no major surprises.

But if it's not selling at that price ... it makes me think there's more than meets the eye there.

That saddle bronze 72 should have blacked-out headlight bezels, but the rest of the front looks correct. It's a $3500.00-$4000.00 car. If it were a fastback,it would generally bring more, since that seems like the more popular bodystyle. My 72 looked just like that when I bought it.Same colors.I have seen a few others just like it,for sale, and in much nicer condition.
That beige one on Pittsburgh Craiglist has been on there for quite awhile.
Are you looking for a stock driver,or something to customize?
