What % was the original windowtint on a 72?

My car was factory window tinted, with none of the glass so far needing to be replaced. What was the % on the tint put on there in 1972? Anyone know?

So your car has factory AC which gives it automatically the soft ray (green) tinted windows. I have not read anywhere about the tinting and am not sure why it is an issue as it doesnt fade with age. One company that would be able to address your question is PS Auto Glass. They manufacture replacement glass for these cars.

So all factory A/C cars have a tint on the windows in 72?

No. But it was generally ordered to help keep the interior cooler and not overwork the AC. If you ordered AC (option C60) it included a heavy duty radiator and option N47 Variable ratio power steering - total package price in 72? $397.00

My tintmeter measured 97% on all 4 windows (97% of light getting through), all 4 have the same markings on the bottom, I just may not have tinted windows or it was only tinted 3%.
Ask a Law Enforcement Officer to check your 72, some have tintmeters.

I think what I'd be more interested in is what index of thermal IR and UV is coming through the glass. Any way you have of checking that? It's not always the amount of tinting that reduces heat, it's the glasses ability to reduce the effects of both UV and IR spectrums

Point: most good sunglasses use polarization, UV and anti glare coatings as part of their construction. These limit UV and some IR in an effort to protect the eye. Darkening the area behind the lens allows the pupil to dilate and allow more harmful radiation in unless there are such inhibitors in place. Most people who buy cheap sunglasses don't know this.

So, with this in mind it's back to the question: Does the softray glass have UV and IR inhibitors built in?
