What is my 442 exactly? W30 options?
My 442 with
VIN ST70 34477LAN253674
TR 937
10B B85
came in Sebring Yellow and Pearl interior with the OAI hood but the intake doesn't appear to be aluminum. I know the original owner and they say the w30 wasn't available in CA and there are no red inner fender wells they are black, my uncle did a restoration of it 30+ years ago but I am confused on what would have made a w30 vs other options?

Without paper work you never know for sure. But it is not true you could not get a W30 in Ca. Sounds like yours is probably not one. I have a 70 was sold in San Diago. I do not have the built sheet for mine either, and I know I could not ask top bucks for mine without it. I talked to the guy that owned it years ago, and I know mine is liget, bit I probably not going the convince anyone else. This car is going to go to my son, when I'm to old to enjoy, so I'm not worried about what I can sell it for. I just enjoy it now.

Things could have been changed over the years. But the real deal W30 will also have F heads (for 1970) and specific numbers stamped into the carb, distributor and if it's an automatic the transmission. Can you post more details on what's under the hood? Or if you've posted this information in the past if you'd remind us again what your car has? I'm just a few hours away from you in Medford Oregon. If you ever get up this way I'd enjoy seeing your car and could help you check these items. John

Also... I'm drawing a blank on his name but there's another member with a 1970 W30 in Northern California, I think near Crecent City. If you could connect with him I'm sure you could compare your cars. John

I can look at the heads when I get home, the numbers on the carb are carb_number = 7040257 UJ2749 and it is an automatic transmission. It is a post coupe. Is it very hard to see the numbers on the distributor? I have asked my uncle if he ever found a build sheet but he can't remember. I know the guy who sold the car off the lot in 1970 and he threw away all of the paper work 10 or 20 years ago. It came out of a pretty small town and was sold locally so everyone here knows the car.
Thanks for the help guys and if I ever make the cruise North I will give you a shout John. I would like to see your collection, I think I got a clutch fan, shroud and top plate from you a couple of years ago.

7040257 is the carburetor for a non W-30 automatic 442. 2749 means the carburetor was assembled on the 274th day of 1969 which would be October 1st. On the trim tag, B85 mean it has the optional wide trim on the upper door next to the window and continuing back under the rear windows. 10B mean the car was assembled during the second week of October of 1969.
The W-25 OAI hood was standard on the W-30 but could be ordered as a standalone option on any 442. It sounds like this is the way your car was ordered.

I agree... this one sounds like it was a standard 442 with the OAI hood. Should have red fenders, olds or oldsmobile w-455 on the intake, F heads, no sound deadening, and boxed lower control arms to be a real W-30. Unfortunately from what i am told they were VERY specific on making sure W-30 cars left lansing with no build sheets. Why? I have no clue. However I have heard instances on another sheet found in cars alittle bigger then the protect-o-plate but paper that has some info on options of the car. Without paper work you are kind of dead in the water with knowing exactly what it had. I was in the same boat with my 70 W-30 but i was fortunate enough to have found the protect-o-plate for the car in the glove box and found the original owner who verified the car 100%.
