what is the hole for and how do you seal it-Olds 455 right head
I am new to Olds motors and am trying to get a 455 up and running in a 1966 Suburban that had a 454 in it.. The motor was just set on the frame when I bought it and while the story with it was "all those boxes in the back have everything you need"----not so much. I have the motor mounts squared away along with a TH400 and newer transfer case and am now working on wiring and stuff on the top of the motor. On the passenger side of the motor, next to where the heat tube for the choke bolts on, there is a sort of slot that is about 1 1/2 inches long and about 3/8 inch high right below and parallel to the valve cover gasket. It looks like it is an air intake of some sort but there are no bolt holes near it or any way to attach anything to the manifold or head to seal it up that I can see. I am hoping that this Olds forum can provide some guidance.
Thanks!
Thanks!
That is were the choke hooks up. You need to get the plate that bolts on there . It has two hole in it for the tubes from the choke go into, so the heat from the motor go up to the choke to make it work. I don't think I have a spare, but some one here will, it is a easy to find item. I know you can buy aftermarket tubes, not sure , you can get a plate> Will take a look.
I don't have the 454 and must have not noticed it in the past. Lack of observation has long been one of my strong points. Thanks for all the replies. This has been a very responsive forum and I appreciate the help.
I'm guessing you have J heads. The slot is simply a place were material is not needed, so none was put there. It's just a pocket. Don't lose a lot of sleep over it. This question must come up about every six months or so.
Ok , they were massaged J heads thou.
