The price of classic cars thread got me thinking. I collect watches, Lionel trains and putters. All pretty casually, as I have collected cars on and off casually for 20 years. The only difference is I collect one car at a time so far.

 

I have a small collection of the Ertl cars and trucks
including a 69 H/O. Doesn't every Olds guy have one of those?

Higher end console stereos
80's boomboxes and other radios I admired when young.
I have hundreds of other vintage things that I use or have, but do not collect.
My house is like an overfilled museum!

Then the ladyfriend has her own huge bizarre collection of vintage things, but I will leave that alone...

 

I think this is my favorite one.

 

Garden tractors,Allis Chalmers, Simplicity, JD Ford ect, implements of all sort, BB air guns from the late 1800s to 1970s, Johan promo models, license plates, anything gas and oil.

I have an extensive collection of die cast cars. Most are mustangs. My wife learned about ebay and about put me in the poor house buying toys lol.

 

Early video cameras from the '60s and '70s, playback machines, recorders, and battery packs that hung off your shoulder for those early tube video cameras. Early reel to reel 1" tape video recorders. Most I've tinkered with and work.

Vintage china and flatware. Just bought a haul of mid-1800s bone-handled steel flatware. You would not believe how long the tines of the forks are.

1933, 1939, 1964 World's Fair stuff.

Interesting well-proportioned old furniture. Recently realised how beautiful tiger oak (quarter-sawn oak) is. I have no more room for any of it though.

But mainly dust!

I have a beautiful collection of butterfly's almost 30 years collecting and over 100 different spiecies along with assortment of very rare bugs. No big buildings to store them.

 

I collect pinball machines. It's just since buying the 67 that Ive done both at the same time. I have about 30 games, most set up and playable. This was once a reasonable hobby, but desirable pinball machines can cost as much as a middling Olds.

I think I was a sophomore in high school. that was about the time
Space Invaders and the whole video game thing started taking over.
I probably spent 1/2 my allowance weekly in the bowing alley playing
those things back then at .25 a game. Got some pics?

 

I build and fly mid to large scale RC airplanes. Anywhere from 4 to 9 foot wingspans. I thinned out my collection from 15 to about 6 in the last year. It gets hard to store so many, two bedrooms full. Then the girlfriend moved in and took over said bedrooms.

 

I've been collecting and restoring 1940's vintage Wurlitzer jukeboxes since 1978. Had a large collection but am currently at 4 but 2 are for sale. One of these days I'll do a proper ad for them. The first two are 1941 Model 850. The single box is a 1940 model 700. just restored and it is for sale. PM your email addy if interested. I've also collected records and still have thousands of them. And, of course, diecast cars. Mostly ******. I'm going to start the thinning of all this stuff pretty soon.

It's not really a collection, but a secondary hobby...I brew a pretty good beer.

 

Hey we have something in common as I like to drink pretty good beer.
My brother in law has started up some homebrewing as well. His first
batches were pretty scary but he has had some really solid brews as of late.

 

I am with Cman, love me some good beer. I prefer micro brewery, bought my self a kegerator so I can get kegs from local breweries.

 

I collect license plates, mostly vanity, speed shop, event, and defunct dealerships.

I also collect amusement park memorabilia, especially Idora Park (Youngstown, Ohio-Defunct), Kennywood (Pittsburgh), and Geauga Lake (Aurora, Ohio-Defunct).

You need a new hobby!!! I only have one of those and that was big money.

I myself collect miniature lighthouses from the great lakes and Lane/Ertl 1:18 scale Oldsmobile diecast.

I also have a large sports card collection from my youth. To bad they won't have any real big dollar value like the used to.

A few planes that have come and gone over the years.

 

Guys this is truly fascinating and to me it is what makes America and things like the car hobby great. What an amazing eclectic bunch of nutjobs we are. Tomorrow I will post a pic of my putter collection. It's in my office. The other collections are hard to post and my car is in pieces in 3 states.

 

My other hobby is guitars and music gear. Although I probably shouldn't say other because I have so many hobbies

 

I collect old advirtising clocks, my oldest is a 1936 Dr. Pepper, 2 bottle cap Dr. Pepper, one bottle cap Dr. Pepper thermometer. My Most expensive is worth approx. $750.- 1200, its a restored Cloverlake Dairy Foods neon clock, pretty big. I remember they were up in the corners of all the movie houses in my home town when I was a kid. I have an old Cooper Tire clock, a large Pearl beer clock, Norwich Asprin, and various others. Also old gas signs, one Phillips 66 with pole and a Sinclair with pole, their huge! a couple of Mobil gas pumps with the lighted script tops. A guy at the Pate swop meet offered me $750. each just for the script tops. Had to decline.

 

Wow nice guitars! I love it. I also have guitars, 1976 Gibson ES335, 1963 Guild CE100, 1965 Fender Musicmaster, 85 Strat, 06 "60th Anniversery Tele" only played once still has all the plastic covering on it. 1985 Gretch Nashville Jr. gorgeous guitar, my only foreign made guitar it plays and sounds amazing. 1966 Fender Super Reverb amp and a mid 80's Peavy Heritage with blackwidow speakers. Just wish I could make myself pick one up!

 

I don't know if you can tell, but my main musical interest is 80s hair metal. Although, I do a lot of recording now and the guy who does the singing is into 60s pop rock or rock n roll, so I've been playing a lot of that in recent years. I've even got a few songs on Soundcloud.

I do the guitar and bass and keyboards. My friend Dave does the singing and my friend Roddy does the drums. We used to play in a band together for a lot of years.

 

Really? Know anything about a Sony CV2200? I have had one out in the garage for years. Seems to work but do not know how to test it. Where would one even get tapes for it?

 

Until I read about steverw's clocks I had forgot I have a lot of those taking up space too. My favorites are 400-day key-wind anniversary clocks and out of 4 I own, only one does not run. I have a couple of battery-run quartz versions too.

I have a few advertising clocks too but those things are big $$ around here. One from a local jeweler sold at auction about a month back and I dropped out of that one at $200- it knocked out at $425. The buyer's dad had been that jeweler's staff watchmaker back in the 70s.

I've found that higher-end quartz desk clocks are really nice too and not only are reasonable and don't take up much space, maintenance-wise all they require is a battery about every 18 months.

One of my workmates, upon learning about my clocks, says "Do you reset all those clocks for time change every spring and fall?" No, I do not.

 

I have probably at least 50 1/18 scale cars. I have at least 75 to 100 1/24 hot wheels size cars, of all diffrent manufacturers. Quite a few of these are Oldsmobile. I would like to sell it all. I'm tired of it.

 

I collect old cars besides Oldsmobiles. I have a 72 Monte Carlo, and a 73 Econoline Club Wagon that I need to pick up from my dad.

I collect firearms, and am proficient to 500 yards with the rifles.

Also, to a lesser extent, collect old signs and such for decoration. Two of my friends
do the petroliana thing, so I collect Quicksilver Oil and Mercury Marine signs since you
never see them, and Champagne Velvet Beer signs and cans and bottles.

 

I've found myself collecting VHS cassettes of movies I like. Today I found "The Hunt for Red October" and "Ghostbusters". The '80's shall live on......

I collect paychecks everyweek I get a new one. Besides the cutlass I don't do much anymore. Used to race rc cars and got into the vintage stuff for a bit right before the nostalgia stuff really boomed in popularity. I buy a lot of tools so I guess that's steady lol.
