What is this doohickey?

Hey Gang!

doing some work on my 64 Ninety Eight CSC project. The transmission dipstick tube has this little contraption attached to it. It has a steel line running back to the transmission. Does anybody know what it is? I haven't been able to find any photos online.
I thought maybe it was a transmission vent or valve. Let's see what you guys come up with!

The " doohickey " is called a breather assembly.
It allows air, but not fluid out of the trans.

Hey Charlie!

I thought that's what it might be… Thanks so much for the info and the exploded parts diagram!
