Weird brakes

I have this in my shop to correct a brake problem!! One cylinder is front brakes and the other is rear brakes. Anybody ever seen this and why would anyone set up their brakes like this? Both ends are disk brakes.

This is a typical race car installation. Using separate M/Cs for front and back allows you to get infinite adjustability in the front/back brake balance. Typically, these dual M/C setups have a threaded balance bar between the two with an attach point in the middle for the pedal. By adjusting this attach point closer to one or the other of the two M/Cs, you can easily change the front/back bias.
