Water temp sensor connector

Looking for the correct connector for the water temp sensor on a 72 455. Anybody know the part number or where I can find one? A picture would be helpful. thanks.

I've seen pics of them and it looks like a one cavity female Packard series 56 female connector? I know the one on my 350 is.
The only thing is that if you want factory correct I think the '72's may have used a blue one?
Inline Tube's '72 W30 connector is blue and I've seen others that color but it may be for gauges only or something, I swear the one Sandy's car with no gauges is blue too though?

This place has them.

I've found them At NAPA but that was a while ago.
You need the connector and the terminal that goes inside if you want to put it on the end of a wire if you didn't know BTW. Think it's the type without the projection to lock it in to a male connector housing.
Funny how the female housing gozinta the male housing, it's the terminal that counts I guess.

Appreciate the feedback...here is the connector for the place you mentioned that I 'think' it is but have nothing to compare it with...I guess for that price I could take my chances and yes, it's needed for a car with rally pack gauges so it could be different than one without....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT ... from your reply, it sounds like inline sells them so I'll follow up with them also...thanks again!

That'a a Packard 56 female with a wire on the end of it, and is probably the right plug for the sender, though with that thin green wire, it won't be exactly right from a restoration perspective.

Depending on how committed you are to originality NOW, you could always just solder on a 1/4" spade female with a piece of shrink tubing over it, which would work fine until you find the exact connector you're looking for.

I don't think Inline sells those, maybe?
The Olds temp wire is a dark green 20 gauge in the manual and that's an 18 gauge wire and it's white in the description on evilbay.
That may effect the gauge reading using a heavier gauge wire on the end and having a splice in the wire?
They say they're real susceptible to resistance.
If the wire is too short you may be better off replacing the wire to the gauge, but I'm no electrical expert.

Lectric Limited sells an Olds temp sending unit lead repair kit that has the wire and all the parts and stuff to do it.
They'll Probably sell you Packard connector and the terminal if you're wire is long enough too.

You should always solder all connections in a 6 or 12v automotive system, and never use those crimp connectors. Too much resistance and too little reliability otherwise.

The size of the wire - 18 or 20ga (or even 16 or 14) should make no difference in this application.

The connector in the auction is the correct one. The notch is designed to allow the connector to slip over the "nail" style terminal on the stock sender.
