My 70S was on the driver's side behind the battery, your car may be different.

The '70 assembly manual shows mounting on the drivers side for 6cyl & 350s, pass side for all 455s There is really no reason for it but that's what they did. On '68-'69s with OAI they had to move it to the pass side since the left side air cleaner hose got in the way of the washer jug but it's not really an issue on '70-72 cars.

Because those cars are clones?

FYI, the inner fenders were pre-drilled for the driver-side tank. The tank is also molded to fit that side. When installed on the passenger side (to make room for the larger battery used on 455 cars), the inner fender needed to be drilled at the molded dimples. Also, since the tank was contoured for the driver side, it didn't fit exactly correctly on the passenger side. It should have been a mirror-image tank, but Olds didn't want to spend the money.

Thanks for the info. Have seen many a car with them mounted in the wrong position.
