w35 option

I have read on here about spoilers being added to cars without it being a factory option and the problem of the trunk staying open. Now, with that being said, are there different rods on cars with the w35 option. I was thinking you could just adjust the load on the torsion rods to carry the difference. I would like to know if the project that I have came with one or not . It came with a trunk off a different car, odds are somebody down the line wanted the spoiler and swapped the trunk and spoiler. And I also know where a scraped out rallye 350 is with the rods on it.

anybody?

Wow, nothing? just an opinion would be nice .My opinion is there no difference. I should just measure the diameter between a none w-35 car and a rallye 350.

Let me take pics of my 2 cars with the spoiler on it and see if that helps. If it is a too much weight on the trunk, you might just be able to get a stronger spring i would think. But i just have ones with the spoilers...

Need to know what year and model project car you're talking about.

Pretty sure the rods are all the same for at least 68-72 A Bodies. If you'll look closely at the pics sicky posted of both of his cars, there are three positions/slots on the hinge in which the end of the rod can be located. The higher positions put more torque on the rod thus causing it to be able to lift more weight such as the added weight of a spoiler.

The torsion rods in the trunk can be adjusted for more or less tension. Mine is set at max and even if it had a wing, it would pop up and stay there.

re: 79 HO W35 option? Where did you find that? I'm looking in a reference for 442/HO cars right now and I can find the W30 HO Package, but there's no reference to a W35 spoiler. I also did a quick web search and can't find any reference to 79 HO spoilers. They were definitely on the 83/84 HO's but that's all I can find. I am just guessing, but if your car had a spoiler on it, that was probably something that a PO added according to his own taste. I apologize if I'm wrong.

I see both of your cars have the torsion rods for the trunk lid in the center setting for the load on both sides. Are the trunk lids well balanced or do they open agressively? My car is set in the same setting and opens fast more so on the top side. like I said before it has a non original, to the car, trunk lid. just trying to figure out if it originally had a spoiler , given the rods wern't moved. Any pics of a rod location of a cutlass with out a spoiler. If they are in the same center location this might mean they are different torsion rods.

I didn't say anything about a 79 h/o with a w35 option. Im investigating another car I have. Sorry I didnt mention that.

No worries, it was an incorrect assumption on my part. Sorry. FWIW there were W35 spoilers for the Cutlass on some model years. Don't know if other brands such as Pontiac Lemans, Buick Skylark called their wings W35 options. I'd be curious to see what you find out.

From what i have read, while googling what the w-35 option is, it seemed you can get it on any of the A bodies from 70 and i would think without having the original build sheet there wouldnt be a way to know. As always i could be very wrong lol

That solves the question of there being different rods. Thanks for the info.
