W25 hood holes

W25 hood holes

the holes on the hood are just inside the scoops...what is the purpose of them? Was there a mesh that went across the opening?

Oldsmobile was going to make the hood a functional ram air hood with flappers in the scoop but changed their mines at the last minute would of been cool.
