W-30/w-31

What is the correct finish(Bare/Painted??) for the T stat housing and the lift bracket?

What year?
I know for sure 1970 W30's were bare it shows that in the dealer training filmstrips.

I would think they would be bare.
Hard to believe they would have painted these seperately for these motors.
On a regular non w motor they were bare then painted all at once when the entire motor was painted.

All cars with an aluminum intake were bare.

On All cars with an aluminum intake the Tstat housings & pull straps were bare.

When I was in the "special engine assembly room" in the engine plant, I saw the lift straps painted and thermostat hsg. bare alumn. Granted I was not there everyday or minute, so I could not verify how every engine was done. However I was in there a lot! Also, since I was on the A body assembly line doing quality checks and I would see a W car I would go over and check it out. I always saw the lift strap painted engine color.

BTW: The engine was painted without the intake installed. The engine builder used a "metal mask" that fit like the intake would covering the ports and frt and rear intake oil seal area. So engine paint color would be above the head intake ports

That's interesting on the intake. Good info. I never liked the look of painted over valve cover gaskets and bolts, but that must be correct.

Everything's aluminum and unpainted nowadays.
