W-30 or not

Heres the deal i located a 1970 442 in some guys backyard out in the desert. He told me its a 1970 442 W-30 however, im having difficulty confirming the W-30 because there is no engine or trans. The front fenders have the W-30 badges but they are painted a different color from the rest of the car which makes me think they were added. I searched this site for other identifier. Here is what i couldnt find on the car: No red wheel wells, no engine or trans, no power brakes and the vin has no "M" it reads 34487LAN381738. The body tag reads: ST70 34487LAN381738 BDY and I was unable to locate the build sheet
TR 934 10 10 PNT
02C
Here are some pics any ideas?

The vin is located at the base of the windshield on the drivers side at the dashboard. Without documentation, you cannot prove what is/was. The data plate info you supplied shows that it was built in Lansing, but that is not proof enough. You need an invoice, broadcast card, window sticker to prove that it was a W30.

IMO without moter and trans it really doesn't matter. The money is in what is there. If you have to find a correct moter and trans and all the other pieces to make it back again its not worth it.

What pictured is a parts car with out any of the good w-30 parts.

No trans? What do I see where the trans should be?

Well, not exactly. In '70 if it has the original trans and it is an automatic, the exclusive W30 OW trans will have the matching VIN derivative. That's proof.

That's pretty much it. The motor and trans are pretty much what make it a W30.

It should also have a 3.91 O axle under it, shouldn't it?

Thx guys, that's more or less what I thought. I just wanted an expert opinion. FYI the trans in the picture isn't the original trans. Thx again

It's still a 442 and the body is for the most part rust free and all of the parts are there ( minus motor and trans) The rust in the pix is just surface rust that wipes off. What do you think it's worth just as a roller?

*Could*.
3.42s were std, except Auto w/AC was 3.23 (optional 3.42s). 3.91s were optional. As were dealer installed 4.33, 4.66, and 5.00.

Yeah, well, except for the fact that The Parts Place has been selling blank OW tags on ebay.

Yeah, but I did say it had to *be* and OW trans, not just dress like one!

The important thing here is what do YOU think its worth and what do you think it will take to fix it up....

Well it looks like the hood and the 442 bumper in in good condition, as mentioned so are most of the panels, has a sport steering wheel, a dual gate, bucket seat cores, there is definitely some value there but it will take either a heck of a lot of time or a bunch of money to get it nice again. If it has the 70 W30 fenders check the rear end just to see what's under there, doubt it is a W27 but who knows and that itself won't prove anything either. There's nothing there but those emblems that say W30. Even the rims are the wrong year, those are SSIIIs with snap on center caps... almost look like 15 inchers. They should be 14" bolt on center caps

It looks very solid. No matter what it is, it's still a great car to start with.

If the price is right and you want a project I'd buy it! Once you get it home you can look for a build sheet in the interior or on top of the gas tank. But if your happy with it being "just" a 442 and the seller doesn't want a gazillion dollars for it yes I'd snag it. John

agreed, if the price is right it would make a great project car - drop in a 455 with aluminum heads, do the suspension up - a great resto-mod project.

Thx for the help guys. The guy wanted 3K when he thought it was a W-30. I'm sure I can get him to go lower now.
