w-30 no paper proof/ documentation
Hi, Im new here and with a new car. I had a 442 before...
So i bought a 70 w-30 with 40k miles on it. The car looks as so, so i bought it. As with no docs, got it for a 442 price.
I was looking for a no rust at a ok price 442 for 4-5 years, found this:
The car is numbers matching, 12-10-69 build. Oldsmobile 445 intake along with the numbers from carb-dis. f-heads,
The car was taken apart in 1990 by the past owner, for a repaint. Was completed and was in muscle car mag. I have the magazine. But everything else is here say. As in no documentation.
The only proof i have is old green factory over spray on the original red fender wells, along the wheel lip.
3- hole trunk lid, w. 3- hole wing. Tick toc ext. like everything is correct.
A insurance doc from 1989 states w-30.
Correct drive line for an a/c car.
Trans has correct tag and 70+ numbers on tag. No vin number.
The engine and trans were rebuilt 4k miles ago (30 yeas ago) they did a great job as the drive train is still show quality but the whole trans looks like they sanded it smooth. So off came the #s.
Great story but is there anything more/ else i can do to document the car?
Thanks

Check under that rear seat for the broadcast card. That's where I found mine. I first looked under with a flashlight only, lifting the corners and peeking in. Gave it another try later and fully removed the seat bottom and it was in the back. Glad I double checked.

Check under the front seats, but also the seat backs. You will have to take off the seat back cover. There will be the 3 screws at the base of the seat back when you fold it, and also the button you push to fold the seat up. I got stuck there because I just thought there was some other fastener, but I tried again another day and decided to use a flat screwdriver to fully remove the surround. One popped out, no problem. The passenger side was tighter. Good luck.

Docs have been found just about everywhere.
within the front seat [under the plastic seat back cover]
in doors
under carpet
etc.
Alas, my car had been "fixed up" before it came to me [cheesy reupholstery job and new carpet] so my dreams are dashed. All I have is that OW tag trans and Dean is trying to take that from me [sob, sob].

Welcome and congrats.
How do you know this? The cowl tag only has the month and week.
There should be no overspray from the factory. The fenders were painted before the inner fenders were attached.

A insurance doc from 1989 states w-30.
Correct drive line for an a/c car.
Trans has correct tag and 70+ numbers on tag. No vin number.
This is obviously suspicious.
Unfortunately, without a build sheet or broadcast card, you will never have definitive proof. Good luck.

Joe. My painter has done 10-20 hurst/ w-30 cars. He picked up on 2 things i didnt even notice. Like one fender has the 71-72 ripples. That fender has the orig. green over spray.
Everything else is good, 442 wise.
I honestly didnt look at the vin # on the trans yet, just thought it was on the ow tag side.
Im alittle rusty, as its been a wile so im trying to ask the questions.

I will, my buddy thats doing the body/ paint has it now. He's the type that dosnt want people dicking around while he has a car. So when its done ill get it back lol. I wanted to get the bugs worked out and go through it, but he has the time now. So the body works first, or i was to wait a year. He gave a great price, and we barter work. 5k and hes doing everything, obviously once taken down there was bondo, and an old fender repair that someone welded over the old. Crazy as when looking at the body you would never know.

Thanks! It is going well. Starting to get a little tired. Mostly because all of this is new to me. You should be able to see all my pics here: https://classicoldsmobile.com/g/album/4626351
I'm no expert so far, but if I stick with it I may end up close!
