Well, I guess they caught their mistake. I got an email saying they screwed up and were going to honer
only 1 case at the discounted price. Oh well, I still got 2 cases last week for just a few bucks more.

I only ordered one so I have that coming. Their regular price of $24 still isn't bad. I've been buying a jug of Penzoil and adding ZDDP so it still works out cheaper.

I ordered two cases at $24 and got the email telling me of their mistake and that they were only going to ship one case. The price is still $24 which is a very good price. So, I just ordered anther case. We will see what happens.

Never saw this thread. I had been watching the VR1 on Amazon for at least a year. Saw that it got CHEAP a coupla weeks ago. Ordered it as fast as possible. Didn't know it was a pricing error. I got lucky, I guess. Scored three 6-packs...

It looks like no extra enviro charges, most places charge that on top. Checked the receipt, yes $7.97 a liter plus our 11% sales tax and GST. It looks like a case of each on the shelf. Either way, I will enough on the shelf for two oil changes for the new 424 stroker getting built this year.

Nope, it currently has 0W20 full synthetic that the dealer had, 5W20 full synthetic going in along with a tire rotation this time around. I would assume SN or SN+ and Dexos approved as well, along with energy conserving. The VR1 has none of those things.

I just read the fine print, this is SL rated and is not compatible with some emissions systems but for street use. Vavoline claims a 1400 zinc and 1300 phosphate even on the SL 20W50. Supposedly the SN 20W50 has the same levels. It looks like it was made in February 2018 if I am reading the date stamp right. I figure it will be perfect for breaking in a cam and subsequent use in the 424.

Good to see it can be purchased out your way, Ontario won't stock or sell it in any of their stores apparently.

I was happy to grab all the SL rated VR1, 2 oil changes worth. I even grabbed a couple of the SN rated VR1 for the 260, poor little thing has some gap in the bearings.

Isn't the SN rated just plain Valvoline?

No, the all silver bottle 20W50 VR1 is SN rated. The one with blue cap and high zinc written on it is SL rated.

Neither of those numbers show up anywhere. I sent an email to Valvoline.

Wow they are quick to respond... copied from my email.

Eric, thank you for contacting Valvoline Product Support. The product in the bottle is exactly the same. You are seeing the efforts of our marketing department. They change the labels from time to time but the product in the bottle is the same it has always been. It had 1400 PPM ZDDP. We tell customers it is the same Wheaties with a different athlete on the box.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us via phone at 800 TEAM VAL or by email at productsupport@valvoline.com for assistance.

Thank you and have a great day.
Mike

It is what I found online. It does say different things on the SL bottle like not compatible with all emissions systems. The online info showed 1400/1300 Zinc/Phos for even the SN. Supposedly the 40W and up SN oil has much higher limits. The 10W30 is SL rated but even it is higher than SL is allowed according to online sources. Interesting, thanks.
