Vin#s confidential #s on 1968 Cutlass
Okay here we go, Does anyone know where or if there are any numbers stamped on the frame? I have 2 1968 Hardtop frames NO numbers that I can find. The vin tag on the cowl, numbers stamped in the engine block and the tag on the th400 trans. anywhere else in 1968?

The frame VIN number, or VIN derivative, is usually stamped on top of the frame so unless you have the body off the car, you won't see it.
I went round and round on this with an inspector with the Washington State Patrol as he was insistent that I show him the VIN stamped on the frame. Fortunately, there was another officer in the building who owned a '70 4-4-2 that saw what was going on and he came out and corrected the inspector. Otherwise, the inspector was not going to let me pass!

Here's an old thread with more photos of vin derivatives stamped into the frame. John
