Vacuum trunk release
Vacuum trunk release
I have a simple stupid question about a 67 CS 442 with trunk release. I have searched several threads but could not find anything about replacing the hose. I have narrowed down the leak in vacuum hose to be between the trunk hinge area and the push button switch it is somewhere under the carpet? So now comes the question can the hose be pulled through its routing position or does the seats and etc have to be removed in order to replace the hose. Be kind, I told you it was a stupid question . Thanks, Mike
If I remember right, the hose is routed inside the rocker beside the door. If you can get to both ends, you might try to tie a string (heavy cord) to one end and pull it through as you pull the hose out. Tie a new hose to the end of the string and carefully pull the new hose back through. There are no stupid questions when related to our Oldsmobiles.
I've never seen one of those hoses leak. It's more likely somebody put a seat on it and it's pinched. Maybe somebody cut it putting in a rug. Maybe they put a sill screw through it. Something like that. You can just put a connector if you can find it. Just inspect it carefully, you should be able to find it.
I don't think that you would have any luck with trying to 'pull' a new vacuum line. There are places where it might pinch and you may end up breaking it all together. At a minimum you will need to remove the rear seat. As mentioned, that may also be where the leak is as the line has to go under the rear seat and thru the divider back in to the trunk area.
If it is like the '68-'69 vacuum hose run for the power trunk, the hose runs under the back seat around the mid-passenger side and there is a metal protective cover over it. if that's the case, it will be extremely difficult to pull the hose through and out. At the very least, I would pull the back seat bottom to verify where that hose runs. If what I said is correct, the metal cover should be easily taken off by removing 4-6 screws that hold it in place. As I recall for '68-'69, the hose then runs along the base of the hump, passenger side, and will appear at the firewall from under the carpet.
