Vacuum lines and water valve help
Vacuum lines and water valve help
Did the 64 Cutlass have a water valve in the heater line? Also, should there be a second vacuum canister for the heat/ac?
Looking at the shop manual, both items are included in diagrams but I don't think the 64 Cutlass had a water valve. I thought the 442 had one but that was a different engine. Mine has a 330.
Regarding the vacuum canister, there is one under the driver side fender that I think goes to the power brake booster. If there is no secondary vacuum canister does the heat/ac vacuum source tee off the one port from the driver side vacuum canister?
thanks again for the help.

Second, the vacuum controlled heater valve was used on A/C cars only. The valve shuts off water flow at MAX COOL settings. Otherwise it is open. Non-A/C cars did not use them.
Third, the power brakes do not require a secondary vacuum canister. The brake booster itself is the canister for the power brakes. The vacuum canister is used for vacuum operated power options like A/C or power trunk release. If it's connected to the hose for the power brakes, that's only because both are connected to manifold vacuum.
The car has factory A/C but no heater valve on the back of the manifold. So i need to get one, I guess.
The vacuum canister on the car now is plumbed to a 3 barb tee on the power brake booster. One line runs from the manifold to the booster and the vacuum canister is on another barb. The 3rd barb is blocked off.
The car also has the vacuum actuated trunk release. Should there be a second vacuum canister or does heater/trunk release and A/C all run off the same canister?
