Unknown part identification

My 1971 Cutlass Supreme, wondering what this part is and what function it serves....located behind passenger side kick panel. Thank you.

Thank you, could be a reason for lack of defrost.

It positions the door in the kickpanel cowl vent to put the system on 100% outside air (A/C or VENT position) or about 80% recirculated air/20% outside air (MAX A/C position).

Easy way to tell it's working is blower noise will get louder when system is in MAX A/C.

Or since it's currently visible, apply vacuum to the system and watch it when you switch the A/C controls.

Sorry they were not an option. Those are aftermarket mirrors.

That recirculation door has nothing to do with the defroster airflow.
