Thought I would spend a few hours on this fender to slow the rust some.
Still needs work, but not bad for someone that has never done this type of work. I may do the other one tomorrow.

 

Looks good, I've always said primer gray is a color...

 

seal it, primer absorbs moisture. you will have rust again

 

What would you suggest? A clear perhaps? Needs to be a spray bomb
if possible.

he used something on some doors I bought before the epoxy primer to stop rust. Hope he chimes in.

 

After I sanded, I used primer etch, wiped down to dry then went with
Rust-oleum Professional primer in the spray can before it could flash rust.

 

Good work man, I agree with the above on how it will come back if you don't treat it then primer it,, recently I seen a video on using Vinegar

the acid in the vinegar is supposed to neutralize the rust i tried it on the doors of my 72, time will tell how effective it is.

 

clear will work,epoxy primer will work or use a cheap dark colorso when you are ready to do final sanding it'll work for a guide coat

 

This is what I needed to know, thank you. There will be some small fill before blocking as well. And this is just the 1st panel. This 442 hasn't been on the road since 91. No telling when they ripped off the black vinyl top and went to filling with the old primer job. I got it this way, and am no body man.

I am just wanting to spend a little more time with it as I can. It's frustrating
not having enough time and drive to spend with the hobby. I used to enjoy
working on them. I was telling the wife last night, that it's just not as fun as it it used to be, now that was arthritis has set in in more than just my hands. She gave me a chuck on the shoulder and said it looked good to her, Ha.

this round though. When I pick up some clear at the Home Depot, I may grab
me a new Dewalt unit.

 

your sander sings with dolly parton? lol I know all too well the artheritis,two bad wrists,elbows and shoulders. makes for short days in the shop,but I keep plugging away

Beer helps with the aches and pains, but I do not do my best work that way. When it is a pain, walk away if there is no hurry. And the older I get, it seems the less rush there is.

I take a few advil prior to the start of most projects as a preventative measure. Then a few after to cope. It seems the older I get I have pain in places I never thought possible.

 

Quite the hack job. Should help the body man some when I ever get
to that point.

 

We're all getting older but it isn't the age, like our vehicles, it's the mileage that causes the problems. I have had back issues most of my life because of an extra vertebrae in my lower back, had three vertebrae fused in my neck, one bad shoulder, multiple car wrecks, and was rear-ended by a freightliner two years ago. I hate taking pain meds but I do enjoy being married so I kinda have to. Something that I have found to help with the regular aches and pains is Blue Emu. It goes on like lotion. Absolutely no smell, not sticky or greasy, and it really works! I told my pain specialist about it and now his whole office uses it. It's good stuff Maynard!

 

Nice work! I'm not as old as most, I'm 31. But I do too have a bad back, when I was 24 I fell 60 feet off a cliff while hiking in mountains. And when I was 22 I had 3 ligaments In my knee repaired due to my knee rubbing bone on bone for 3 year , basketball injury and no medical insurance. So I know pain too, my relief is some little Asian lady who pokes me with needles, acupuncture. Also I drink warm water all the time, those Asians told me our bodies hate cold so warm water helps with pain. Google warm water and youl see, but everyone thinks I'm crazy with the warm water, well except the wife because I have her well trained hahaha

 

Or does she have you trained... To think she is trained? That is the ever eternal question.

 

 

The youngest Son came over and gave me some much needed help yesterday.
New gas tank and sender with one of Patton's gas tank pads I bought years ago
for the 69, and installed the 3.23 posi.

Sand and prime the driver side.

 

Brakes bled and trans pulled for rebuild. Confirmed #'s matched for it.
If you use a 66 rear without the boss for the T brake line, you have
to use the strap and the longer line for the 69-72. I have a new short
one if someone needs it.

 

Awesome on the number matching...is their a 66 rear in it or is this unrelated?....I am confused...again😜

 

Hi Ted, yes, the 66 442 I had parted last year had a 3.23 posi in it.
I took out the '70 type O 3.23 single track out and put this one in it's place.
