Triple black?
Triple black?
Does the term "triple black car" refer to the w30 that were black body, interior and vinyl top ?
Was manual disc break standard on the w30 cars...?I have noticed some with power brake boosters
Thanks,
Ted

Power BRAKES were not available on the 1966-69 W-30 cars. Starting with the 1970 model year, Olds offered two different camshafts in the W-30 motors. In 1970, manual trans W-30s got the traditional 328/328 cam and power brakes and A/C were not available. Automatic cars got the lesser 285/287 cam (and somehow magically were rated at the same HP and torque as the manual trans motors...). This cam did provide enough vacuum to allow power brakes and A/C to be offered. By the 1971 model year even the MT W-30 got the less aggressive 294/296 cam.
My definition of triple (insert any color here) has always meant paint - interior - & top.
With the word "top" being defined as a convertible or a car with some sort of fabric covering on the roof (vinyl-cloth-etc).
Drives me nuts when someone refers to a car as triple ... & it lacks a roof covering or isn't a convertible.

You have an upper body color, lower body color and interior color. If all three are black people call it triple black. Does not matter if it is convertible, hardtop or vinyl top. I believe this is a term that people came up with and not a OEM term.
Actually I recently saw a new Challenger that was gloss black with satin black R/T stripes. "Subtle" would be an understatement. I'm sure it was not stock.
When I bought my 70 mach 1 its was called triple black...it had factory black paint a black interior and flat black stripes on the hood and the trunk stripe under the 'mach 1' lettering and funny you mentioned a challenger because when i had mycougar eliminator a few years later there was a triple black 440 charger with the same striping that cleaned up at the connector where we street raced
The stripe stays.....I do not remember seeing many black cars , and I had read somewhere on here that they were not that popular...the W30 I just bought was black interior, black exterior and a black vinyl top....I could paint the white interior and install vinyl top and the car would be returned to the triple black it was born with......ummmmmmm
I also have the column shift and a bench seat that could be returned the car .....and sell the tilt column and sport wheel that is in it now....another ummmmmmm

My buddy has a 71 6 pack 4spd Superbee, 71 Hemi Charger, and a 72 440 4spd Rallye Charger, black paint, black interior, and black stripe. The 72 is the least desireable of the 3, but it would be my first choice cuz it just looks awesome!
?
not sure how anyone determined its missing the H heads? Question is how far are you willing to go to get back to original? Is it necessary. The assembly manual will reveal how far off it is and you can decide the fate. Good luck and save it if you can.

It did come with a 73 455 with a F block and J heads...complete and a rear axle from a 71 cutlass that I will put in temporarily as the deal did not include the drag rear end....
The way it looks now, the car will be put back to original but drivetrain and engine I may have some fun with...we will see...
