Transmission wouldn't shift out of park??

Guys, weird one and I don't know WTF happened.

I pulled my driveshaft out of my '70 442 wannabe, and dropped my rear end out.
Got my new rear end in it, driveshaft in it. Bled the brakes, etc.

Rear up on jack stands still I tried to start my car.......no crank, but I got a red light.
I tried to shift my shifter, wouldn't get out of park. I could feel the steering wheel shaking
when I tried to shift because the linkage by the brake booster felt like it was jamming up
I have a floor shifter tho. I'm assuming that's for the steering lock.

My sis in law kept wiggling the shifter while I got under and tried to see if
something was binding......I couldn't see anything binding. Then it came loose.
Car started, shifter shifted......BUT WTF could have happened ???

I'm worried about something like this happening while I'm out on the road so I want to know what it could have been.
Was it me jacking the car up from the rear too high and twisting the linkage maybe ??
Someone suggested it's possible the parking pawl had a load on it somehow ??

But we tried at least 25x to get it to shift and it wouldn't......and then BAM......it's fine.

sounds like the linkage got a little out of whack. The column linkage controls shift lock for the console as well as neutral safety/reverse lights.
