"Trail of The Rocket" 1951 Oldsmobile Factory Tour

Here is a General Motors film from 1951 that tours the Oldsmobile factory. Have you guys seen this? I did a search, but it doesn't look like anyone has posted it before. If you haven't seen it, enjoy!

Thanks for posting this. This will take you back to one of the greatest times in automobile history. I never realized they built those engines to such close tolerances where they were actually matching pistons to each cylinder. What a great time for Oldsmobile.

You're welcome! I figured at least a few guys on here would be interested in seeing how things were done back then. It's pretty fascinating to see. It always boggles my mind when I think about the sheer volume of cars and parts that were produced during the industrial boom. They're so scarce in today's world. Where the hell did they all go?

Most of these cars were scrapped long before we established relations with the Chinese. They were probably crushed and then melted down right here in the USA.

I don't see how it can be classified as a "propaganda film", but you're welcome.

X2. I thought it was very informative and was at the time it was made.

Over the years, we have manipulated certain terms, to use throughout our language. Webster's says:

pro·pa·gan·da noun \ˌprä-pə-ˈgan-də, ˌprō-\

: ideas or statements that are often false or exaggerated and that are spread in order to help a cause, a political leader, a government, etc.

We all know what propaganda is. Please explain your motivation in using the word to describe this video clip. Now that I know you know what the word means, I'm even more confused.

Depends on the shop. I do engineering in Final Assembly shops of a major auto manufacturer, and we use robots for only the urethane bead on the non-moving glass.

Now, weld and paint? Almost all robots.

We made all the GM truck frames and had 800+ robots, welding, riveting and material handling. Lots of fun to program and play with...
