They fit super tight in the engine compartment, and the passenger side actually needs to come out to flatten a relief where it hits the oil filter housing. But the goal was achieved - I can adjust my shifter linkage, the starter won't cook, and I can replace my front bushings without having to drop my exhaust system. As for the butt dyno? It's a dog. You can really feel the difference between these and long tubes. They look nice, and maybe someday I'll go back to a better set of long tubes. For now, they're fine.
I assume you got a set with the 2.25" collectors? I like the new SBO set except for the one flattened pipe. I would have like to seen an attempt to expand or an attempt to move that pipe over. Curious, what are the specs on your car, surprised it is really noticeable. But there is a restriction without a doubt on Thornton's old 2.25" collector version and with Pypes necked down at the inlet to 2.25", 2.5" down pipes. Thornton new headers and Ram Air Restorations true 2.5" mandrel down pipes would definitely flow better.

Yes, these are the original 2-1/4" collectors, so the Pypes have a narrow inlet and then expand to 2-1/2". I don't know the exact specs on my engine, unfortunately. It seems to have a mild cam, and the pistons are flat top. The difference I feel is in the low end, off the line - the torque doesn't seem to be there like it used to. I can't get the chirp of the tires when I shift hard into second anymore. Not that I'm racing this car anywhere - it's a cruiser - but there is a drop off from the moderate performance I had.

Fair enough, that 1/4" worried me, shows it makes a difference even on a mild motor. There is probably 15 hp and possibly more torque lost vs long tubes. Shorties are a comprise but have advantages for space. I have 2.5" exhaust routed under a single hump crossmember and still have decent ground clearance thanks to these Sanderson headers. I noticed a loss from my Sanderson's and 2.5" X pipe exhaust, especially up top compared to manifolds and 1 7/8" dual exhaust. Probably a good chunk is the 2.5" pipes but anything is better than factory log manifolds for flow.
