Things to see/do between Indianapolis and Springfield?

I’m kinda on the fence on the Oldsmobile show. I have the vacation time, unfortunately my wife doesn’t. My son wants to attend, unfortunately he just had some surgery and is healing. Depending on how he feel’s determines if I go, and if I’m going solo.

My question, what some must see/ interesting attractions along the way? I have been to St Louis a couple times, other than that I can’t recall ever visit Missouri.

In typical road trip Matt navigation, I’d prefer to stay off the interstates. I enjoy the laid back, not sure where I’m going until I get there kind of trips.

There are numerous cities called Springfield. Have you decided on which one?

If you're talking about OCA Nationals in Bruner, MO a great leisurely shot would be State Road 1 South to State Road 45 to State Road 60 over to Bruner. Very laid back, long drive but very scenic.

LOL Nice

If you get off 60 & onto 76 at Willow Springs that's a beautiful stretch of road. I've driven it and rode it many times. Gorgeous area. Say Hi to Homer.

Matt - Not knowing what you have or haven't seen in St. Louis, I'll throw some things out there in case you end up coming thru here since I've lived here for 40-years.

If you haven't been up in the Arch, it's worth going up in. Certainly a Great engineering marvel of it's day! Great view at the top, plus there is a nice Westward Expansion museum in the Vistor Center. Nice thing to do when it's hot since you're in the A/C.

Grants Farm - The former home and property of Ulysses S. Grant, and later the mansion of August Anheuser Busch Senior. You can Google about it, it's a nice tour.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery Tour - Nice tour, again a nice choice when it's hot out. Tasting room at the end.

St. Louis Zoo - Excellent Zoo, brought to prominence by Marlin Perkins of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom fame. Perkins was the 2nd Director of the Zoo from 62 - 1970. This landmark is a treasure, cost to get in is free, that's right, free. There is a fee for parking in the large secure lots. Air conditioned buildings for some of the animals where you can get out of the heat if you need a break.

Meramec Caverns - About an hour outside of St. Louis right down U.S. Hwy. 44 that is the main artery from St. Louis to Springfield. Great tour of the caverns, which are spectacular, and a great thing to do when it's blistering hot outside.

If you decide to go, and decide on your route, you can PM me and I may be able to think of other attractions.

Bern to the arch, the brewery, zoo, and the St Louis City museum.

I guess I have been to St Louis 4 times. My wife and I did part of power tour in 2014, and part of another power tour again in 2008 (I think) Drag Week in 2015, and a family vacation in 2017.

If you look closely, you can see the Olds in the parking lot. This pic was taken from the observation deck of the arch.

Marriage tip: Don’t ask your wife if we could join the “630 foot club” unless you and your wife are both good natured with a sense of humor. Even then, it’s not a good idea. 😁

Matt - Good deal, you've hit most of the big attractions. If you get close, try to hit Meramec Caverns, it's well worth the stop.

Bruner? Bruner is 30 miles away from Springfield.

The OCA Nationals are at the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center, Springfield, Missouri.

Official address (especially for those GPS'ing it):

333 S. John Q Hammons Pkwy
Springfield, MO 65806

Ah, OK. Thanks for the clarification. For some reason I thought Bruner. Maybe the race day @ Ozark Raceway Park? Didn't want to spread bad mojo, guess I was reading the wrong article. Thanks!

The Friday night racing is at Ozark Raceway in Rogersville, Missouri, which is about 20 miles east of Springfield. Bruner is about 15 miles south of Rogersville.

To be 110% correct, the raceway is actually about 4-5 miles as the crow flies southeast of the center of Rogersville.

The street address of the raceway is (yes, Missouri is weird in that many of their state and local highways are designated by letters rather than numbers.)

8529 State Hwy U
Rogersville, MO 65742

I'd add the National Museum of Transportation. Has a nice indoor selection of automobiles but tons more outdoor trains, etc. and jets. Ten minutes off 44 outside Saint Louis.
