Are these the elusive NOS 1970 Cutlass S grills

Saw this on ebay and for some reason they look like the Cutlass S grilles everyone is trying so hard to find. Anyone with a 70 S confirm?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...E:B:SS:CA:1123

EDIT: found a pic

Wow, wish I would have gotten a few more sets when I bought mine from GM in 1985. Bought two Cutlass grilles and the hood extension for $55. That might have included a discount; I got them through the parts department at the dealer I worked at. Still, it would have been probably 75 for a regular person.

And I wish everyone would stop calling them Cutlass S grilles. Yes they go on the Cutlass S. They also go on the base 4door, F85, and the wagons.

Seems odd that no one reproduces these and they're likely the most sought after grille.

Yep, the Rallye 350. Which is a Cutlass. Do you think there was a guy on the line somewhere whose only job it was to paint the Rallye's grilles black?

black and gray. the gray is a differant shade than the unpainted part. i always wondered how they did it when the cars were built.

What would you like us to call them?

Hey Mike - I only called them that because of all the references I've seen for guys with a Cutlass S and need the grills. Short while back someone posted a 4 door 70 for sale and it had those grills. I remember commenting on it.

Anyway, FWIW I only titled the thread that way because of the number of times folks have been asking about the 'Cutlass S' grills.

Can't go back and change the title now.....

I'm just busting chops, Allan. Look at it this way, though. If someone(YearOne, Fusik, etc) were thinking about making these, if it were more widely known that the grilles go on more than one car, it might make it look like more of a money maker. Or, someone wanting to buy a pair of $500 grilles might get more of a break if they aren't so exclusive. Of course that doesn't help the guy selling the $500 grilles....

They do look nice, don't they.

that is why i unloaded my nice used set. out of fear they would repop them. now i found out that there are zero intentions of any of the repop places making them any time soon.

Jeepers, if I had a set of those I might just consider having a mold made so I could repop them myself. There's a big market out there for them, but I think when most guys can't find the right OEM grill, they just throw in 442 or CS grills.

If I did that I would list them as 1970 Grills - Fits ALL Cutlass and wagon models......Mikey approved! : Trim paint not included!

Well, I -am- sort of partial to them

I wish I had the means to repop something like this. It would be a get rich quick scheme for sure.

However I notice that the grilles in question haven't gotten any bids yet.

I know what you mean.

Noticed the lack of bids too. Couple of things pop into mind.
1. Still 3 1/2 days to go
2. Prolly not a lot of folks who can spare 500 clams for a set of grills given today's economy. Can you imagine how many ice cream treats you could buy your pups with that? You could even get a decent 'driver' puter to replace the one that's giving you the problems.

Not to mention - you could buy Royal Purple oil products for your 'High Saturn'

Hm, same guy made three bids. That's odd. If they go for 750, then I'm pulling the grilles off my car and selling them. I don't think I could get that much for my NOS fenders.

The "Mikey" Grills

They are like diamonds in the rough from where I sit. If I had those, I'd clean and fix them - repaint for best appearance and get top $$$. So they're not NOS, but they sure are OEM and the damage on the side can be repaired if you know how to do it. Would likely hurt the value, but I'd guess it would go for about 150 - 200 per side, maybe more. The market will determine the actual selling price and these grills are more in demand than others. I've seen some stuff that I wouldn't pay 50.00 for sell for over 300.

You do have both sides? Most folks are looking for a set

broke ones are much easier to find. also the right one is much easier to find. with it being a single also.... i would say $100 tops on ebay. if you had a set in that condition it would be closer to $225 IMO. you have to have real nice ones to bring the good money.

$279 at Fusicks buys you a new set of Supreme grills. Sell the ones on your car for that, and it's a free exchange

Sold for $714. Not bad. If they made repops. I wonder how much value a set of NOS grills would drop down. 40-50% ??

we are not going to find out any time soon....

it would be a matter of how good the repops are. if they were great reproductions these would drop at least 40%. i figure the reproductions will run $300 so the NOS would be in the $400 area IMO. why they made the Supreme grills over the S grills to begin with is beyond me. there are far more supreme grills NOS out there than S grills. i also feel there is a bigger demand for S grills.

It took me awhile but i bought a set awhile ago off of here that might as well have been NOS for $400. If ya keep looking the deals are out there, it just might take you awhile to find them.

A few months ago, there was a NOS set on epay for $600 (without boxes) but NOS. So I bought them. I guess it helped out that the add was a few hrs old and it had a " BUY IT NOW " slot. I don't have boxes, but hey, there going on my car anyway, replacing the beat up Supreme grills, I had on there the last 20 years. I seen that pair that oldzzy bought. VERY NICE. Sometimes you just happen to be at the right place, at the right time. But they are out there.

Seconding confirm, these are in fact the elusive 'Cutlass S' grills that nobody can quite get a hold of. They're in pretty great shape too, I should know it's my car haha

I was actually surprised to see it on here. This post is what made join this board in the first place lol. I bought it off that kid who was selling it, and since have been cleaning her up. I've got to say she looks a looot better (It's surprising what a little love can do for a car). You have to keep up on love out here in the Midwest anyways. NE Kansas is the WORST place to own an old car, if you dont wax and clean and love 'em the weather will TEAAAR them apart. You'll flash rust every unpainted inch in only 2 years. She's not a bad car though, great stance and a nice 350.. ...Now I just need to find some 455 C heads. If only I knew of some forum full of men who help me obtain these..

Well Bacchus,
I should prolly back track and start out by saying Welcome to C.O. Nice to see we were able to 'coerce' you into joining..

So now comes the fun part. You get to go to the newbie forum and 'introduce' yourself and your car. (If I missed that, my bad) If you post some pics of your Cutlass S and a general story about it's past and your goals for it, you'll surprise the heck out of a lot of guys here who like to say "welcome, but we wanna see pics!".

EDIT: removed comment about gender after visiting OP profile page. Sorry bout dat!

Sounds good. You must be getting the 'system' that dumped on us last night. Lots of lightning, thunder, hail and heavy rain for about an hour, then just steady drizzle for another 3.

When you get around to it....BTW I really like that color!
