th400 oil pan?

I have a couple of quick question about the th400 transmission pan

1. Will any th400 pan work for the bop 400... ie chevy pan?
2. What is the advantage of a deep pan vs. Standard depth?
3. Whats the big deal with the cheap chrome ones i see on ebay... will they work?

as far as I know all the 400 pans are the same, the difference from chevy to BOP is in the bellhousing bolt pattern.
the deep pans are to allow for more fluid which helps with cooling.
I try to stay away from any cheap chinese crap. you get what you pay for. I took a set of chinese chrome valve covers off a GTO recently and most of the chrome on the underside had peeled loose and was down in the motor. also the fit is questionable on a lot of the cheap stuff. I dont like chrome on stuff like pans as the chrome inhibits the transfer of heat so it stays in the pan.

Pans are the same. Deeper just holds more fluid, and should run a little cooler. like the other post said stay away from the Chinese one.

Looks like you're already covered here, but have one thing to add. Good idea getting a pan with a built in drain plug, or install a drain plug kit. Will make future fluid changes, far less messy.

If your interested in a great pan and money isn't an issue the top URL makes some nice stuff.

The bottom URL is for the best TH400 pan gasket I've ever used or seen.

Probably not relavent in this particular case, but I believe the early switch-pitch pans were different from the later ones because of the different filter.

X2 on the drain plug. Makes servicing a breeze.
