Super Bowl in Dallas

Well, just finished watching a pretty good ball game, and my team didn't win (Cowboys), but my surrogate team did win, the Packers! Main reason for the thread is who in the hell are the Black Eyed Peas? The half time show was good, production wise, but I personally thought they (the BEP's) sucked and blowed, terribly. I was looking forward to hearing some good music;what I heard was not what I consider music. Your thoughts? Maybe I'm just like the stuff from the 40's-50's-60's-70's-80's, and even 90's, too much.

The BEP suck. Ferggie (the female lead) is worthless as a singer.........the only reason the BEP are a hot group is cause Ferggie is good looking (but I really don't think she is that hot........and I do like hot women). All of their music is boring and basically without melody........nor are they very tight as far as rhythm

I didn't see the 1/2 time but I heard they were terrible. I didn't think it was possible to be worse than The Who was last year.

Luckily they brought in Slash to play guitar and Usher to dance. Both helped. Then, when the Black Eyed Peas started singing actual songs (not dance hits) that helped too.

The audio feed was horrible who ever set it up should be fired. Yes I am 58 years old and like b BEP and would love to spend a night with fergie. Their music was butchered so bad it was a crime. Nothing at all like any thing you can play on a decent sound system. The performance was ok but the sound sucked. Fire the sound man and never do half time shows again.

I think you just answered your own question, but in age groups.
Most people in their 40's , 50's, 60's, + don't know who the Black Eye Pea's are
and wouldn't have cared for the show even if the sound guy didn't botch it.

You don't get to play the Half Time show at the SuperBowl where commercials cost
$1 million per 30 second segment if you're a nobody. They're popular among the
younger generations and huge in the urban club scene.

72 Cutlass455 is spot on.....the sound guy failed. I personally thought the show
was great aside from the sound. The visuals were pretty badass.

For the record.....Fergie brutally murdered Sweet Child o Mine.
She sounded like a chick trying to sound like a dude. But she's pretty damn hot.
She's not the main talent though.....Will I Am is.

We watched the whole thing from the comfort of the living room sofa and all the free beer I could drink...

It was a good game. I did not care who won, but just enjoyed the plays.
My ladyfriend kept complaining that she could not tell what team was what because they all had yellow pants. I kept telling here - look at the shirts and helmets!! Geez...

As for the halftime show:
The "music" sucked in every which way possible. Sweet Child of Mine was the only decent thing, though badly butchered by someone who could not sing nicely. The rest of that was pretty much just crap. Not everyone there were young hip-hoppers and liked that stuff. I almost had to mute the tv... I would have hoped they would have played a a little for each generation decade. Oh well - it was short and I got what I 'paid' for.
On the flip side, the lighting was very creative and had my interest. That was way cool! I bet a lot of my company's LED driver IC were inbedded in all those costumes.

SOOOOOO.... What was your favorite ad? I had 3.
1 - The Chevy Volt (I liked the blast from the past scenes)
2 - VW new beetle (the "Bug's Life"- like cartoon with the little beetle bug racing around the slower bugs. That one was the only one that made me chuckle...)
3 - I forgot - I will add it when i remember it...

BEPs were terrible! I agree the sound technician/team failed miserably but the singing wasn't very good either. I think choosing them was a mistake, even though they are Huge in the urban club hip/hop scene that doesn't cross enough demographic boundries considering it was a Super Bowl. I did like the fake hair with the lights though, I would have expected to see that on a guy with parachute pants singing 'hammer time'.

Game was great....Why does everyone have to murder the Anthem, sing it as a sacred song please....BEP OK I guess but usually get more to eat during half-time anyways.

The Audi escape from traditional luxuary had me rolling especially when they brought in Kenny G as one of the last resort weapons to hold them back.

Good game, but I did not care for the BEP's either! Not my kind of "music". Sweet Child of Mine is one of my favorite songs, and I just cringed when Fergie tried singing it. Thank God it was short...... I did think the lighting in the costumes and such were cool. Very creative. But once again, the singing of the Star Spangled Banner is another story.....

I did not see that and I guess it was a good thing.
Too bad real singers were not utilized throughout the event...
Is bad singing just the new fad?
No wonder I still listen to the old stuff........

An underwhelming performance by the Peas seems to be the common reaction.

Er, Aron, I think we knew the Cowboys weren't going to win even before the game started.

My team (the Browns) didn't win either. In fact, I can think of 30 teams we knew, before the game started, who weren't going to win.

With as popular as country music has become in the last few years all over the country that would have been a much better way to go. Tim Mcgraw or Toby Keith or similar could have brought the house down.

No doubt. Country is about the best music around here now days (my opinion) and would have been very appropriate for here in the Lone star State!

The game was good. Glad the Pack was able to pull it off this year. My daugher likes the BEP's but agrees the half time show was crap. She has seen them live, and they stink in concert too. They rely too much on layering and production. I think most of the half time shows don't sound as good as they could. They have had some really good acts, but the sound in a stadium is just tough to get really good.

This year at the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup game they had BTO (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) at half time. They sounded pretty good and I like that type of music.

BEP does not sing my type of music, but I think it had to do more with the sound guy or sound team. I thought it was Kareoke night from the way it sounded. Christina also screwed up on the anthem. I think singers mess up anthems when they try to sing it like a song and want to sing it their own way. It's an anthem. Sing it the way it was supposed to be sung.

A Mexican snuck into the Super Bowl and wrote his mom back in Mexico. Mama, the Americans are the most wonderful, compassionate people I know. I snuck into a big event but there were so many people that I could not see. So I stood on the field. They asked me for my ticket and for my name, but Jose did not have a ticket. So I stood on a railing so I could see but they told Jose that I could not stand there. So I climbed a flag pole almost to the top so I could see.

Mama, everyone in the stadium stood up, look at me, put their hands over their heart and said.... (Are you ready for this?)

"Jose, can you see?"

I have to agree, Usher would have been a far better selection to headline the show.
That guys damn good on stage and women that don't even listen to his music that much (my wife) love his shows.
Some bands just suck live, they're better in the studio with a master mix artist at the helm.
Looks like BEP's is one of them.

Its always been popular here and I have never even listed to it until the last few years. Country is by far the 2nd biggest growing market segment in all of radio nation wide only second to talk formats.

Not surprising in rural America or the south IMO.
Hell when I was in Kentucky by Fort Knox for the **** Creek gun show we
couldn't find a single bar that WAS NOT country. We tried......trust me.

Hell even in the Suburbs of Chicago they have country music nights.
Kinda weird to see a bunch of nuthuggin cowboy hat dude's round these parts.

Rap and Hip Hop seem to be the other fastest growing genre.
Between you and me though, I'd rather see country where it's peaceful music then that gangster rap garbage.
MOST of which, I'm not a fan of. I'm a rock and metal kinda guy myself.
But I did my decade of clubbin in the late 90's. So I like club music too.

The best commercial was Rosanne Barr getting hit by a log. After that sloth destroyed the national anthem years back she should be smacked!!!! too bad the log was not real!!!

How about next year forgetting the half-time extravaganza, which invariably disappoints, give a few local high school bands the thrill of a lifetime, have just a 15-20 minute half-time like they do during the regular season, and just play the damn football game.

I can't believe how many whatevers they had to go through at the start before they actually started playing the game. I mean, they have an honorary coin, an honorary coin-flipper, a Walter Payton whatever-the-hell-it-was award, the list seemed endless. The fact that a football game was supposed to be played seemed almost an afterthought.

Many of them are strippers as their main revenue generation.
SuperBowl weekend Strip Clubs get pretty crazy revenue generation.

I was near Green Bay for the last SuperBowl they were in.
Girls came from all over the midwest to work the local clubs for the Big spenders.

Well some additional comments:

-All the 1/2 time show really needed to make it good was a band

-Tina Turned called up after the show and said she wants her Thunderdome costume back

-It was appropriate Fergie sang Sweet Child of Mine, I mean what is going on there was that a baby bump?

-After SCoM I wouldn't blame Axel Rose for pulling an Elvis and shooting his TV set

-Was Will I AM channeling The Fifth Element with that head piece?
