My 1969 455 started to make a sound that resembled a cracked flywheel.So, up on the hoist it went.
Took off the flywheel cover, it was good.
Visually inspected the flywheel , and all teeth were good. Tapped it with large screwdriver and it resonated fine!
Next, noticed the starter pinion was too close to the flywheel. Looked thru a small hole in amongst a jumble of header pipes and noticed that the starter shift lever pivot pin was gone.Took starter out, and put in a pin from a spare starter.
The proper names for these parts came from the Olds Chassis Service Manual, which I picked up at a yard sale for a buck!
End result, back on the road again!

Just thought I would share the resolve to a problem that could of been much worse
