Stolen car alert

NOT MINE

This post kills me. Sometime while I was away some dirtbag broke into my garage, and stole my 1947 Ford. I have been hoping it was just out for a joyride and would be found someplace already. However, reality is setting in and I don’t think that is the case. Someone had the ***** to break the lock on my garage and walk off with my car. I can only imagine they knew I was away and that it was an opportune time. The car was stolen from Vine Grove Ky between the 24th of May and the 18th of June.
It took me, and a bunch of talented friends 3 years to turn a pile of rusty parts into my pride and joy. I am devastated and without words.
Please, keep your eyes out for my car, it runs a fully built John Barrett 350 Chevy small block, with finned aluminum valve covers and a chromed caddy air filter. 700r4 transmission. Full set of Autometer retro style gauges. The wheels are wheel vintiques, one of the very first sets of artillery style they did, and I haven’t seen any others like them, so please look for parts as well as the whole car.

Sorry to hear this, I hope you get it back. I'm way north but I'll keep my eyes open.

Even for thieves, one would think stealing such a unique car makes little sense

Just such a recognizable classic. If this car sees the light day it will be spotted by someone fairly quickly

Yes, so what's the odds they've stripped it and sold/used parts on other cars. Or do a street/rat rod and modify it significantly. I feel for his loss.

Whenever a custom car is done recently, and the owner is gone for a bit, and it is stolen from a garage from which it can't be seen; it's an inside job. The owner knows the thief.

SO. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It goes into a container and gets shipped across the pond.
This is the part that sucks about car shows and the internet.
ANYONE can go shopping for what they want at shows and then have your address from your tags and the net.
And when I say anyone, dealers from other countries come over here with a customer wish list. Some are on the up and up, but many are not.
Sadly this is the world we live in.

Explain to me, Joe average citizen, how, with just the license plate number of a car, I can get the address of the owner? The police can do this all the time, but the general public? Not that I'm aware of.

Probably not too hard for a hacker. I have an online parts catalog that can take a license plate and give me year, make, model and engine.
To me, this shows a connection to RMV info that shouldn't exist.

This data exists, and the DMVs have realized that it is pretty much a "come steal me here whenever" list. It seems that basic access of a plate gets you a name, but advanced address is what car, vin, address, and all sorts of ****. Advanced access, at least in Indiana, is for people proven to be dealers, attorneys, court people, mobile home runners, and a few other things.

This is the message I received.

UPDATE: my car has been recovered!! Thanks to a tip from a fella that saw this post, my car was found. Due to the ongoing investigation I can’t say a whole lot more at the moment, but I can say that the whole family is so happy and grateful. The car will get a good checking out in the morning but it is safe.
This post was shared around 80,000 times. It was shared in just about every state, and by all sorts of people. It is proof that people are good at heart and care about each other. It’s easy to forget that in today’s world, but things like this are a reminder of the power of people when we work together.
I’d also like to thank multiple police forces and officers who took the time and made the efforts to get my car returned.

Wow, I'm touched and happy about what you just wrote. I hope you'll press charges if someone is caught, even if you know them. Look at all that had to happen for your car to be recovered. Please keep us posted when you are able to talk about it.
