Steering wheel corrosion, replace horn button

Two issues today:
First, my 4-spoke steering wheel has several spots of corrosion, but otherwise is in good condition. How can I eliminate the rust without altering the finish or texture of the spokes?

Second, the clear plastic center of the horn button is cracked. Does anyone sell the clear plastic cover, or do I need to replace the whole assembly?
Also, how do I remove the trim ring, cover, and button?

thanks,
Rattlecan

I would try some metal cleaner/polish first.

the ctr cap just pulls off although a little rust can make it pull off hard, the ctr of cap is availible repro....just set the rubber part in warm water to to make it pliable and you can remove the old ctr and install the new one.

Swapping center caps isn't as easy as you'd think. The repro ones crack pretty easy.

I've got a horn with a cracked center, and I tried putting a new one in and it cracked too. :/

I gave up and never installed the sport wheel.

Just make sure you rub WITH the grain. If you put cross-wise scratches on that brushed finish it will stand out like a sore thumb.

Run hot water over the horn button. Full hot water.... After about a minute you will be able to get the plastic center replaced with no problem at all. I have done many of them.

I also drill out the rivets to remove and replace the plastic emblem very easy to do from the back side then replace the rivets. Just remember you are working with plastic so don't force anything.

Trim parts reproduces the plastic center either 68/70 chrome edge or 71and newer silver edge.
