steering column washers

I just replaced the ignition switch in my non tilt steering column and noticed some small nylon washers between the cover plate. I are these needed as i lost a couple of them?

No. Those washers were used to retain the screws to the cover plate as a pre-assembly when these columns were assembled. That eliminated the chance of dropped screws and wasted time. They serve no other purpose.

Thanks Joe, I went to my service manual right after I posted that and found the same thing there. I had to go through my body manual and my assembly manual before i found it in the Chassis Manual LOL
