Stainless trim on 62 Starfire

Is the stainless steel trim on my 1962 Starfire chrome plated? I'm polishing the stainless trim on and around the trunk lid and when polishing the same piece I get a beautiful shine on part of the piece and a scale looking/dull looking shine on the same piece right next to the shiny part. Very frustrating.

The stainless trim on my 64 Vista was “flash chromed” A cheap way to put a shiny finish on the trim.
I took my trim to a chrome shop and they removed the finish so I was able to remove dents and then
polish the stainless with a buffing wheel. It wasn’t very expensive for them to remove the finish and I had a
lot of trim.
