Is this special?

Hey guys, I just picked up a 72 Cutlass Supreme that is a factory 455 car. This was going to be a parts car. VIN code 'U' for engine. Car has 10 bolt posi, boxed lower control arms with sway bar. 455 engine with turbo 400, disc brakes, dual exhaust, A/C, power windows, buckets and console, Ralley gauges, power windows, electronic rear defrost, comes with 5 original ralley wheels with the original spare.

Was going to part out the car for parts usage on my 70 Supreme and my Dad's 70 Supreme but now wondering if I should keep it intact?

Thoughts from the experts?

U codes have value because you can authenticate it as a big block car. They have a certain allure because 442 was a sticker package in '72 and available on a 350 2 bbl. What is the overall condition?

I see it has the Rallye Pac with the tic-toc-tac Definitely worth fixing up Unfortunately the W-29 (442) option wasn't available for the Hardtop Coupe on the Cutlass Supreme platform Only the Cutlass Supreme Convertible of that platform could be had with the W-29 along with Cutlass Hardtop Coupes, Cutlass S Hardtop Coupes and the Cutlass S Sports Coupe body style. Anywho I'd keep it intact for what it's worth.

Looks like it definitely has some nice factory equipment on it. Maybe 10-12% of '72 Supremes were U codes, so it's a fairly rare machine. Rallye Pack, boxed arms, buckets/console, plus the other options = pretty desirable. If it's not significantly rusted and it has the original drivetrain, it's worth keeping it together in my opinion. Wish I had kept my documented Ebony Black one equipped very much like yours (plus Dual Gate) that I had in 2000-2002....

Car needs quarters, lower trunk section and L&R trunk pans to be good. Frame is good.Motor runs and tranny shifts, smoke show last night showed posi works, HaHa. All the power windows work and gauges work. Front buckets need re-done and a new carpet should be installed, basically could be a good rebuild canidate.
