Okay you guys I've been trying to figure out size difference from a 77 cutlass to a 78 cutlass. Weight and how much smaller it is.. I would also like to no a 84 cutlass specs too.. I love those cars any help please
As you undoubtedly know, '77 was the last year of the '73-'77 era of the Cutlass, and it was downsized starting with the '78 model year.
For 1977, the Cutlass wheelbase was 112 inches for coupes and 116 inches for sedans. Overall lengths were 211.7 for coupes and 215.7 for sedans. The lightest '77 Cutlass was the Cutlass S Hardtop Coupe at 3,668 lbs. The heaviest was the Supreme Brougham Hardtop Sedan at 4,013 lbs. Station wagons had the same wheelbases as sedans but were 4.2 inches longer. They also weighed just under 4,100 lbs.
For 1978, all Cutlasses, including wagons, rode on a 108.1 inch wheelbase. Non-station wagons were 197.7 inches long while the one wagon, the Cutlass Cruiser, was actually 1/10 inch shorter at 197.6 inches. As far as weight, all of the Cutlass versions were in the 3,100 to 3,200 lb range. The wagon was slightly heavier at just over 3,300 lbs.
By 1984, the Calais and Cutlass Ciera had come along, and they were shorter than the other Cutlasses. The Calais had a wheelbase of 103.4 inches, a length of 178.8 inches, and weight just over 2,500 lbs. The Calais was actually called just that. The word "Cutlass" was not in the name.
The Cutlass Ciera had a 104.9 inch wheelbase, a length of 190.3 inches, and the various versions weighed between 2,700 and 2,800 lbs.
The Cutlass Supreme and Salon for 1984 had wheelbases of 108.1 inches, lengths of 200 inches for coupes and 200.4 inches for sedans, and weighed anywhere from 3,180 to 3,250 lbs.
The one wagon in the mix was the Cutlass Cruiser, which had the same wheelbase as the Ciera but was 4.1 inches longer at 194.4 inches and a bit heavier at just over 2,900 lbs.

While not claiming pure accuracy here, do recall some specs from that era. 1977 Cutlass V8 coupe, 3900 lb. 1977 Delta 88 V8 coupe 3700 lb. 1978 Cutlass V8 coupe 3400 lb. While these numbers aren’t etched in stone, shows the direction GM was heading to get weight out, also dropping engine displacement for better fuel mileage. And yes, the 77’ Delta 88 was 200 lb lighter than a 77’ Cutlass.
