I've seen quite a few on the web, but I don't believe they were intended for the CS. From what I can see in the Assembly Manual, 1971 is the last year they were 'factory installed'. In spite of that, I'm going to put one on my 72 just because I think it looks cool.

Spoilers...

Here are some pics of the spoiler on my 72'. I really like how they look on the Olds'. The other pics are with my good friend Leo's Buick GS. That is one bad *** spoiler. I really like how the stripe goes down the side and over the spoiler. He also has the M-25 bumper. Pretty cool for a Buick.

GS Buick my other most favorite GM car, especially the 4-speed GSX.

I have always wondered what a Buick GS front chin spoiler would look like on an Olds A body.

Probably pretty cool. My friend with GS has the chin spoiler but it has not been installed yet. We did do a test fit to line up the holes and it really give the front end some attitude!

Thanks for those pics... happen to have any test pics showing the entire car with and without it to get the full effect?

Edit:
Found an SX that had a rear spoiler added:

I have the hood on mine but no wing. I have been back & forth om the wing but think it looks good with the top down but not so much with the top up. That is JMO.

I didn't like the look with the top down. I sold the spoiler (aftermarket) locally and used the funds to help defer the cost of the repairs. Metal was welded over the bolt holes on the top and bottom sides of the deck before body and paint work.

I'm going to take a guess that it looks weird because the angle isn't right. I think he has the spoiler on the hood instead of the trunk. Hard to tell with the cover.

I noticed no one here has stripes on their trunks with their spoilers. Does anyone have a picture that shows a trunk with a spoiler and stripes?
Would like to see what that looks like before we consider doing it on our 72 cutlass.

I don't have a pic but i've seen this & it does not look good. with the notable exception of a pace car, trunk stripes are for Chevelles.

Ro,
Spoilers, aka option W35 (spoiler - rear deck) was only really available from 69 -71. (I have seen them on 68/69 but cannot find the option code listed in their SPECS) The option was discontinued in March of 71. This means it was not offered as an option for 72. Lots of folks put them on however because of the 'cool look' factor. The wing is not functional unless you are travelling over 120mph......so it's mostly cosmetic anyway.

The ONLY Cutlass that I know of having the rear wing and deck paint was the 69 Hurst Olds.

The only Cutlass (supreme) that had dual rear deck decal stripes was the 72 HO.

First pic is of the H/O
Second pic is of the Rallye 350
And the 3rd pic isn't a real car but a model I have been slowly working on and decided to do up some stripes on her. Paints horrible but you get the idea lol.

No. It's off a 1976 Buick Free Spirit Pace Car. However NASCAR used these on the Cutlass body and that's where I got the idea. I put this on in 1990 and never took it off. I have the original trunk in the shed (and hood in the garage). If I get tired of it everything can be switched in an hour.

My wife was driving my grandson thru the country past a farm. My grandson asked her what was hanging between the horses legs. She told him it was his tail. He said what is that other thing. She said it is nothing.

A week later I was driving him past the same farm. He asked what is that hanging between the horses legs. I told him it was his tail. He said no I mean what is that other thing.
I told him it was the horses *****. Then he says Grandma said it was nothing. I said well son I have your Grandma spoiled.

I won't be showing pictures of my spoiler.

LOL Thanks for not posting! If you have grand kids I assume that a picture would show you half-cocked.

I think the Supreme's look better without the spoiler.

Your car looks sick, I wouldn't complicate things with a spoiler. JMO.

I've decided that too. Still looking for a ram air hood. Your supreme doesn't look half bad either

Steve, I'm interested in the feedback the following comments may generate.

Based on my research and documents, none of the 72 Cutlass line up was offered with a spoiler as a factory option. Could always have it installed by a dealer or bodyshop though. On some cars it looks very nice. If you're trying to keep the look OEM, you need to know if the car was available with the option.

The 72 SPECS don't even have the W35 option listed anywhere in the book, nor is it in the dealer product selling guide.

Further, I don't think the 70/71 Supremes were offered with the W35 option from the factory either. It was offered on the 70 f85 coupe/post + Cutlass S and 71 Cutlass/Cutlass S those years.

But the SPECS for 70/71 clearly do not include that wing on the CS.

The wing wasn't ever available on the CS. The CS used a different deck lid and the spoiler pedestals do not have the correct contour to fit properly (it's subtle, but it doesn't).

This isn't the best picture, but until I can dig one up here's what I did to a 1971 Cutlass Supreme in the mid-1980's. I put on an OAI hood, 1970 sport mirrors, deck lid spoiler and rear bumper with cutouts. I agree the Supremes didn't come with spoilers, but I put this one just above the curve downward and it fit pretty good. Many of these items came off a dead Rallye 350 I pulled out of the blackberry vines. John
