Shoulderbelts for 1972 Convertible

Is there any aftermarket company that sells a shoulder belt kit for a 1972 Cutlass Convertible?

I've seen them before. They attach to the rear upper seat area and anchor into the metal body frame.

Are you aware that was a factory option?

I did hear that mentioned once but I haven't seen any 72 convertibles with that factory option. I guess it was a rare option.

They bolt to the bracket that holds the convertible top ram.

I wonder if something like this might work?

I'm close to completion of an install for the front passengers on my 69 convertible. I can take a few photos, if you think you like what you see I'll point you to where I purchased. The factory chassis manual shows details of the mounting points, I call share that as well if you like.

I'll take the pictures a little later.

Here are pictures of how the factory shoulder belts are attached on my '69 convertible, if that will help. The pics of the panels show the buckle retainers. Personally, I find this option to be a royal pain! I don't even use them. It surely seems to be a rare option, though.

From what I recall of a discussion a while back, these shoulder belts are in the wrong position to provide safety during a collision.

They are probably not in an ideal location but not having a shoulder belt and having your face and chest smash into the steering wheel is not any better.

I also think it's a bit of a wives tale that the shoulder belts didn't provide upper body protection/support. It's like when people used to say it's "better" not to use your seatbelt as it's "safer" than being trapped. Of course, facts and reality proved that statement to be false. One would have to be foolish not wear a seatbelt today.

They do make "universal" retractable seat belts but I doubt there is enough room/space on a convertible to mount the retractable mechanism.
