Why is my 73 cutlass fuel sending unit so expensive. autozone wants 75

That's about the going rate, but you can probably do a little better online. Rockauto.com has them for your car for $57 or $60, depending on whether or not you have A/C. I paid about $65 for one for my '67 Delta.

Remember, this isn't like changing the oil filter or air filter. You're going to buy this once and then never buy another one again unless you own the car when it gets to be 80 years old. But you can worry about that in 2053.

No matter what the car, I've always seen them in the $50 to $80 range. To be honest, you should be happy they're available at all for a 40-year-old car!
