selling cars on today's E Bay
Good morning, I'm going to sell my 63 Corvette soon and looking for any recent trans action experiences selling a car at a reserve price on E Bay. Seems over the years E-Bay has really improved their selling and buying procedures. I pay for the insertion fees, the buyer pays the 10% buyers final sale fee. I understand most of the rest. Thanks.
Definitely search completed auctions. I do this occasionally and the high dollar cars almost never sell. I doubt it's worth the time and effort. I have no idea what ebay's listing fees are for complete cars anymore.
I have not sold a car on ebay for 2 years. If you have a desirable car and have a real world market value on it I have had GREAT luck on eBay selling cars. My last one I was so confident in that I sold it with no reserve and no opening bid. I don't really recommend that but it worked out really well for me. If it is on there with a buy it now at a premium price then I don't see much action on those cars.
I monitor BaT every day. There's some cool stuff, but it seems skewed towards high end European cars and Corvettes. I don't know what the fees are or what their success rate is. It does seem like most of the cars there don't meet reserve, either.
Often people will use the eBay listing as a front for advertising. Once the serious buyers see the car they will wait until the listing expires and then work things out afterwards. At least, I bought a car like that once
I sold my 70 on ebay and wish i had not. The first time around, the winning bidder refused to contact me. I had to track him down through his other auctions and call him at work. his answer.... "sorry man, i was supposed to sell a grand national today and it didnt sell so i dont have any money". Ebay did nothing, even made me pay the auction fees since it "sold". So i relisted it and got almost no bids. People started emailing asking what was wrong with the car since it was relisted. a nice guy did end up buying it, and he got a hell of a deal, and i lost my shirt on it.
BAT reaches a wide wide audience. My father in law is trying to sell a great cj7 jeep and they wont touch it right now, because it is not interesting enough. They told him they are slammed busy, due to everyone being off work and at home.

BAT also has a good tools to search listings on their site, you can see a graph over time of auctions that sold and didnt sell and see prices, then click the point on graph and see the ad listing. I use it sometimes to see values moving up and down with regards to time.
