SE Ohio Painter Recommendations
Ok guys and gals, I haven't heard from the guy that was suppose to paint my car for a while. So, I am going to investigate plan B.
Unfortunately, I don't have a good plan B, and this is why I need your help. I am looking for people to talk to. I need a good reasonably priced body guy to do the body work and paint my car within 2 hour radius from me. This would encompass Columbus, Ohio; Akron/Canton Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pa, and Charleston, Wv
By reasonable, I thinking $10k to $12k ballpark. Any help is appreciated.

Wild Wes Paintworks is in Dover, Ohio. I've seen several of his personal cars and his paintwork is outstanding. But I have no idea what his prices are like. Also, his website is under construction. So here's a link to his Facebook Page if that helps any. At least it's a start.

Lee Williamson is on here, but I forget his username - he's outside of Akron. He's finishing a '69 convertible now and his metalwork skills are excellent.
He looked over several of my cars, each one needing some degree of rust repair and one with a color change(back) and they were all in the price range you mentioned. One was actually well below it.
If he doesn't jump into the thread, I'll nudge him on Facebook.
Another outstanding paint guy who is also a big Olds guy is Don from Aliquippa, PA, west of Pittsburgh. He's doing a friend's '72 442 now and he owns a spectacular '66 tri power that he restored. The silver mist paint was amazing on it and my friend said his pricing was surprisingly good. I can get his contact info.

Thanks fellas,
This will help. I spoke to one guy yesterday he told me $40k, just paint and body. :0. I'm not building a concourse car, nor does it make economic sense and it would diminish my fun factor as I would be afraid to take it out of the garage.
Terry, I sent you a PM
If there is any other suggestions even if it is close to that ballpark, I'd appreciate it.

Troy,
I received similar quotes on my car ranging from 12K for the floors, trunk, and body work + another 6K for paint, down to 14K all in. I looked that car over very well, you have excellent fenders, the hood is a wash, it will cost more to fix than replace IMHO. The only real area of concern were the quarters and inner wheel houses, as the trunk floor, and with the exception of the passenger floor were all good. So if I was at 14K to 18K I would say you are looking at 7K in body and metal and another 4 to 6K for paint depending on how nice you want it. Again, sorry to hear about the numbers matching block.

I was able to locate a local guy that I have been looking for, for the past few months. 40 years experience, no questions about his quality. I thought he had retired, but had heard he was still doing it. He came and looked at it, and it goes to his shop 1st of July. I paid him the deposit last week to ensure the spot in his schedule. Somewhere between $11-14k to do everything.
Your pretty accurate on your assessment. I already have replacement aftermarket quarters, and outer wheelwells. Inners are good, a patch on the drivers side is required. I agree on the hood, but it fit the car really well. I plan on having that discussion with him, but he was not too concerned with the hood.

Hope you have a written contract.
NEVER EVER do a capital project without everything being specified.
Many horror stories about non contract paint jobs, and they are ugly.
$11-14k is a pretty big spread.
What happens when the $14k is used up and the job is half done?

This is sound advice. We will get to the paperwork upon delivery. This gentleman has a very sound reputation. He has basically an "open shop policy". He encourages/expects his customers to stop by and see the project, and ensure the finished product is exactly what the customer wants. He keeps daily logs of his work that is always with the car, and he takes pictures along the way. His shop is about a half hour away from me, so I should know well in advance is the project is going sideways.
