sanderson header question

I have a new set of sanderson headers for a 350 that I bought 3-4 yrs ago and am now thinking of useing a 455 instead; the ports measure very close, the 455 measures only 1/4 inch more meaning an eighth at each end and they seem to bolt up as well as on the 350, and for that matter a little dremel work on the headers could open them up as there seems to be pleanty of material to work with- anyone made this exchange?; and any thoughts as to a good cam for driveability and a littlerumble, thanks , Dave

I doubt they will work but you might call Sanderson.

The different deck heights between 350 and 455 usually means that headers for one don't fit the other. Shorties may fit, but full length headers usually do not. They'll bolt to the heads but they won't clear motor mounts, oil filter, etc.

olds34dude, Are these the rear dump shorties (O351)? Did you have them on a 350 previously ? I ask because I have a fitment issue with my new O351s on a 350 in a '68. The left (dr side) collector hits the rear of the crossmember...

As for using them on a BBO, I would think they might work as the increased deck height would just raise them up an inch. Don't know how this would affect steering and other items clearance though. As you said, the tubes/ports are smaller. I'd be wary of grinding out too much as you would be into the pipes pretty quick....

I wouldn't try it, as had both SB and BB in my car, and the headers are different dimensions. The SB headers are Dynomax #85030 and BB#85029. I actually went with the ceramic coated #86029 version, and worth the extra money. They both fit fine for the intended engine, so why mess around. Dynomax doesn't market these any more, but believe they are now marketed by Holley's Flowtech division. Don't think you'll have any problem selling your Sandersons to another member.

thanks for your replies; they are center dump shorties and going in a '34 Olds that is subframed, they were on the 350 and installed in the car but I pulled it back out to smooth the firewall etc and now thinking of changeing as it is to be my wifes' car and she wants the BB, pleanty of clearance with the 350 so I really can't see a problem. Ihave a couple of 455s and just took apart the one I bought for $75,( as it had a bent pushrod and was the lastthing left in the garage of a lady moving and divorced) and it turns out that the bottom end was done and it has a comp cam 280 H10 in it . This is more cam than I would choose but I do have a Ford rear with 2:73 gears and I believe a corvette converter. Anyone had any experiance with this cam-Magnum series? Appreciate your replies, Dave

Don't have any experience with that particular cam, but from the spec's, isn't one I'd choose, as really prefer a dual pattern grind, with more lift/duration on the exhaust side. The 230 duration at 0.50" will probably be fine for a 455, but maybe not so good against a low stall converter and 2.73 axle. Since you bent a push rod, gotta be a pumped up lifter, and maybe go with Crane Hi Intensity's, that bleed down a bit at lower rpms. These tend to calm down large cams a bit. Also bettin' you've got at least one damaged rocker, so another replacement. Strange how things add up, as even without a cam, you're looking at lifters, push rods, and rocker arms. Ooh well, it's only money.

My mistake in the prvious post as I hit a 2instead of a 3- I have an8.8 Explorer rear with 3:73 gear- that cam wouldn't work with a 2:73; D
