Rust Remover..

Rust Remover..

Someone at work told me to soak metal parts in vinegar to remove rust,dirt etc. Is this true? Has anyone done this? Steve

Yes,

I had used this method for small parts as have others I know. It has to be apple cider vinegar though.

I think it's the acid that does it not the fruit it was made from....My two cents ....Tedd

I've been using white vinegar to soak small nuts, bolts, etc. prior to tumbling them. The vinegar seems to remove a lot of the dirt, and some of the rust. Also, I use a small amount of white vinegar to the media when I tumble the parts, and they come out very clean. Then I tumble the parts in a dry brown fine media, and the parts look brand new. Then I either use black oxide, or if natural, just shoot them with a clear coat.
