Replacement heater core

I have to replace the heater core in my 71 442 con. w/ac. I know this has been covered but I haven't been on for a long time. I tried NAPA but it looks like aluminum replacement and I want copper. Any suggestions on suppliers besides having mine re-cored?

Thanks

We covered this subject recently, be advised that most A bodies used the same part:

If you are interested I do have one. It's 4 years old and the car is driven about 1000 miles per year. I'm putting in Vintage Air AC and it has a whole new unit that eliminates the old heater core. Let me know.

Paul,

Your best bet is to pull it and have the original recored.

I had one done, and it is 100X better than the repop chineseum crap they sell now.

I'm looking for one as well, so if scrappie doesn't want yours I may take it off your hands.

Yep, get the original recored at a good radiator shop. I've done several, two in the last two years. Find a shop that does a lot of older stuff. If your core is not rotten, it might just need to be leak checked and resoldered.

I was very fortunate on my 54. When I pulled it I was surprised to find it still black instead of the whitish gray most of them are when they are rotten. I know it had not been connected for at least 30 years. I think it was bypassed due to a leaking Ranco valve. It had a slight crack around one of the tubes. I had it resoldered and pressure tested and it works fine. That is one job I do not want to do again.
