Relocating to North Carolina
Relocating to North Carolina
Going to be relocating to Apex NC soon - anyone know if any local clubs or OCA chapters near there? So looking forward to getting off Long Island!
The Oldsmobile Club of America has all of the chapters listed on one page.

Looks like we will be neighbors. Welcome to NC. I am not into the club scene but there are plenty local for you to look into. Lots of cruise ins and shows in the area. What time frame are you moving in? PM me when you are Around and maybe we could hook up to take in a show or cruise in. Also if you need any info on the area feel free to reach out. There are a couple other CM members in the area as well.

Hey thanks Steve - you are officially my second friend in Apex, right behind my Realtor who was great. I actually was not looking to join a club but to learn about cruise-ins and shows which is more my speed also. Planning on moving 2nd week of October; I added you to my contacts because I will NOT remember anything by then Im sure and will absolutely reach out once Im even partially settled. Took a ride through Fuquay just last Wed; pretty farm country for sure; was there for the day showing my kid around. Looking forward to getting down there and meeting up.

I'm in Florida and have been for 50 years. Yankee's and old people would be a welcome sight compared to what's been happening the last 20 years.
Unless someone can do the legwork and get Mid Atlantic Chapter up and running again, yer closest OCA Chapter is Smoky Mountain which is in Asheville. I'm a couple hours up the road from you near VIR and there's other guys in the area too. I'm not that familiar with car scene in RDU area, but west towards Burlington and Greensboro is pretty active.
Working for Progress Energy, there was always some damn meeting to attend in Raleigh or down at the nuke plant training center in New Hill. Don't miss fighting I-40, not one little bit. The CARY acronym is closer to truth than any native of the area wants to admit. Lot of people say that in the last 20 years, no one living IN Raleigh is originally FROM Raleigh. And what is amusing to us is that all the people from Northeast who have relocated there, and who one would think would be able to drive in snow and ice, cannot. Yes, our snow is different.

The Raleigh/Durham area has an unusually high concentration of relocated New Yorkers thanks to IBM,among others, which brought nearly the entire population of Kingston to the area in the 1960s and '70s. A linguist at N.C. State University actually published a scholarly paper on the phenomenon, noting that kids who grew up in Raleigh after about 1965 have a much less pronounced regional accent than those who grew up in surrounding areas, thanks to a large proportion of non-Southern peers.
A big part of the problem with snow and ice in the Raleigh area--and most of North Carolina, for that matter--is that it happens so infrequently, we don't have the equipment and infrastructure to clear it properly.

We really should try to get a cruise in set up with the local CO guys. I know of Scott442 and there was a guy in Knightdale named Joe.
