Registry, etc.
Good morning, it's 51 in Will County, IL. Does anyone have any info on '68-'72 Cutlass Registry? How to go about registration and fees? Does anybody think it's a good idea and why? I've seen the Pontiac's and Vette's have them.
Are there any local clubs in this area for Oldsmobile Cutlass and their many varieties? I have yet to see any. I've seen Lemont Car Club. But any for Oldsmobile? Thanks!
Also, I have seen a few photos of '68 Cutlass Supreme's with the side front fender decal stripes like the ones on 442's. Was this an option back in '68 on the Supreme or a add-on later in life? If an option, would it be on build sheet which I have yet to find?
Thank you for your responses.

No, the side stripes (option code W-36 in 1968) were only available on the 442s. Nearly every 68 442 you see today has these stripes added, thanks to readily available templates, however nearly every one of those has them wrong. The factory relocated the 442 fender emblems on W-36 cars. The ersatz ones rarely have the emblems in the correct place, resulting in stripes that don't align on the body properly.
But hey, I don't feel strongly about this.

Joe,
That answer works for me! I have seen earlier photos of 442's with fender decal coming slightly over the driver and passenger doors, I take it these are the ligit decals. Knowing my car looks just fine with the color combo that it is, I feel a stripe may give it the "gawdy" look. I sure don't like the imitations I've seen on some of these muscle cars. Some of them do look pretty cool and sometimes sharp but originality is also very nice too.
Thanks Joe.

I don't know of any '68-'72 registry for the Cutlass or 442 models.
I've attached a few pictures of where the W36 stripe is supposed to be on the 442 model. Like Joe, I've seen several whom have added the stripe but they left their 442 numbers in the non-W36 location. For the W36 option, the numbers are actually lower and closer to the door than the numbers without the W36 option.
