Register old tags in Texas
I read on another forum that Texas was going to stop allowing us to register vintage tags as 12/31/10. But I just registered my 55 Texas plates yesterday with no problem.

Did you register the vehicle as "Antique", or "Classic"? After the drop dead date you may still register with old tags as "antique", with five year registration, no inspection with limited driving restrictions ie: shows, cruises, parades, and a weekly maintenance drive for general upkeep. Of course the maintenance driving is a grey area and can be interpreted on a case by case basis. The Dec,'10 deadline was actually for getting the tags approved for "Classic" use as in numbers/letters were legible and not spoken for and color was correct. The actual registration for those tags must be completed before September I think. Classic registration is no different than your normal registration, no mileage restrictions, TX state inspection, and typical annual registration fees. The TXDot is just getting away from letting us have old tags on daily drivers. Hope that helps clear it up.
